Director of Digital and Movement Building

    Location: US Remote (ET preferred)

    Salary: $130,000-150,000

The Center for Countering Digital Hate is looking for an experienced Director of Digital and Movement Building to grow the world’s leading digital movement for technology accountability.

As CCDH enters our next phase of growth, you’ll build the digital infrastructure, communities, campaigns, creator networks, and supporter experiences that help people understand our work and act alongside us. Your work will help transform public awareness into the collective power to create a safer internet and hold some of the world’s most powerful companies accountable.

The ideal candidate combines strategic leadership with a hands-on understanding of digital communications. You’ll lead the digital team while remaining closely involved in campaign strategy, social media, web, content, audience growth, supporter journeys, and digital innovation. You’ll provide the strategic direction, editorial leadership, and campaign vision that enables outstanding execution across digital outputs.

This position reports to the Head of Communications and Cultural Impact and supervises the digital team including the Digital Fundraising and Growth Strategist, Senior Digital Communications Officer, and the Digital Specialist. As a rapidly growing, international NGO, the role will be required to work with team members across time zones and geographies.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Lead CCDH’s digital strategy across social media, web, CRM, email, SMS, fundraising, audience growth, digital organizing, and emerging platforms to build one of the world’s leading digital movements advocating for technology accountability.
    • Partner with the Head of Communications and Cultural Impact to turn research, investigations, litigation, media moments, and policy opportunities into campaigns that reach millions of people and inspire action.
    • Build the digital infrastructure that helps people discover CCDH, stay engaged with our work, act, donate, and become long-term supporters of the movement.
    • Lead a best-in-class storytelling and content program across CCDH’s digital channels, finding the messages, narratives, and channels that bring our work to life and break through with digital audiences.
    • Grow creator, influencer, and strategic partnerships that help CCDH reach new audiences and bring our research into mainstream conversations.
    • Build a culture of experimentation by integrating new and emerging technologies, digital products, campaign models, and engagement strategies that strengthen CCDH’s impact and movement growth.
    • Develop measurement frameworks and performance standards that continually improve audience growth, supporter engagement, fundraising, campaign performance, and organizational influence.
    • Mentor and develop direct reports, while providing strategic leadership across the wider digital function to raise the ambition, creativity, editorial quality, and performance of CCDH’s digital communications.

    Person Specification

    • 8-10+ years of experience leading digital strategy, movement building, advocacy campaigns, digital communications, audience growth, or digital fundraising.
    • Demonstrated success building digital movements, growing engaged communities, or leading integrated campaigns that achieved measurable organizational and public impact.
    • Experience leading multidisciplinary digital teams while remaining hands-on in campaign strategy, social media, editorial direction, and performance optimization.
    • Exceptional editorial judgment and a deep understanding of how digital communications, online communities, and culture shape public opinion and mobilize action.
    • Experience developing integrated campaigns that combine communications, advocacy, fundraising, digital organizing, creators, partnerships, and community engagement.
    • Excellent leadership, coaching, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
    • Comfortable balancing long-term strategy with hands-on digital leadership in a fast-moving, high-profile organization.

    Technical Skills

    • Experience using CRM platforms such as Engaging Networks and Salesforce to build supporter journeys, segmentation strategies, marketing automation, and digital fundraising programs.
    • Experience leading website strategy and managing modern CMS platforms such as Storyblok, WordPress, or similar headless CMS solutions.
    • Strong understanding of website strategy, SEO, accessibility, user experience, conversion optimization, and digital best practice.
    • Experience with GA4, Looker Studio, platform analytics, audience segmentation, marketing automation, supporter journeys, and A/B testing.
    • Experience developing digital fundraising, lifecycle marketing, and engagement strategies across multiple channels.

    Desirable

    • Experience working within an NGO, advocacy organization, movement-building organization, agency, or digital-first media organization.
    • Experience leading international digital campaigns and movement-building initiatives across geographies.
    • Experience developing creator, influencer, and/or community partnerships.
    • Experience supporting rapid-response communications and high-profile media moments.
    • Interest in technology policy, online safety, democracy, artificial intelligence, or digital rights.
