    Description

    The Organization

Poder Latinx (PLX) is a civic and social justice organization building political power for the Latinx community. Our vision is to make Latinx people decision-makers in our country's democracy — winning on economic, immigrant, and environmental issues. Our mission is to build a sustained progressive voting bloc through a voter-integrated engagement model that connects voter engagement, issue-based campaigns, leadership development, voting reform and protection, and narrative change into a continuous cycle of political consciousness.

    The Opportunity

This is a genuine entry point into mission-driven fundraising and development work. As Development Associate, you will work alongside the Development Coordinator to support Poder Latinx's fundraising efforts — learning the full landscape of donor cultivation, grant reporting, and development operations while contributing meaningfully from day one.

This role is designed for someone early in their career who is hungry to learn, deeply committed to social justice, and ready to bring their whole self to the work. You will be mentored, supported, and given real responsibility. If you want to grow into a career in nonprofit development and fundraising, this is your launchpad.

    Key Responsibilities

    Research & Donor Prospecting

    • Conduct prospect research to identify and evaluate new funding opportunities and potential donors, using online databases, foundation directories, and other available tools.
    • Compile organized research summaries and briefing documents on prospective funders for review by the Development Coordinator.
    • Monitor funding trends and relevant developments in civic engagement and social justice philanthropy.

    Database & Records Management

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of donor interactions, gifts, and grant awards in the organization's donor database (EveryAction/Salesforce).
    • Ensure data integrity through regular audits and updates to donor records, contact information, and gift histories.
    • Generate standard database reports to support the team's tracking and planning activities.

    Donor Communications & Correspondence

    • Draft acknowledgment letters, thank-you notes, and routine donor correspondence for review and approval by the Development Coordinator.
    • Assist in preparing donor-facing materials including briefings, updates, and communications aligned with PLX's voice and mission.
    • Support the coordination of donor outreach and engagement activities, including scheduling meetings and follow-up communications.

    Grant Support

    • Assist in compiling data, gathering program information, and drafting sections of grant proposals and reports under the guidance of the Development Coordinator.
    • Track grant deadlines, deliverables, and reporting schedules to support timely and accurate submissions.
    • Coordinate with relevant departments to gather accurate program updates and narrative content for grant reports.

    Administrative & Event Support

    • Provide administrative support for the development department, including scheduling, document management, and logistical coordination.
    • Assist with planning and execution of fundraising events, donor briefings, annual summits, and special cultivation activities.
    • Draft and send administrative documents related to grants and donations, including invoices and routine correspondence, as directed.

    Team Collaboration & Learning

    • Collaborate with staff across programs and departments to gather information relevant to development activities.
    • Actively participate in team meetings, development planning sessions, and organizational learning opportunities.
    • Develop a working knowledge of Poder Latinx's programs, campaigns, and issue areas — including paid leave for all, immigrant justice, and economic justice — to support authentic and compelling fundraising communications.
    • Adapt to shifting priorities and manage multiple tasks efficiently in the dynamic environment of an electoral-cycle organization.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • 0–2 years of experience in fundraising, development, administrative support, community organizing, or a related field. Internships, volunteer roles, and lived community experience are explicitly valued.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, meet deadlines, and work independently with appropriate supervision.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to detail.
    • Genuine passion for social justice and civic engagement, particularly as it relates to the Latinx community.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently with appropriate supervision.
    • Proficiency with Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Gmail) and comfort learning new platforms and tools.
    • Commitment to collaborative, cross-functional teamwork in a remote environment.
    • Willingness to travel as required for key events and organizational activities.

    Preferred (Not Required)

    • Experience with or exposure to donor management software such as EveryAction or Salesforce.
    • Familiarity with grant writing, prospect research, or fundraising communications.
    • Oral and written Spanish proficiency — strongly encouraged but not a barrier to application.
    • Background or coursework in nonprofit management, communications, political science, public policy, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.

A note on qualifications: We recognize that professional experience is not the only measure of capability. We strongly encourage applicants from the Latinx community, those with community organizing backgrounds, first-generation professionals, and candidates whose experience does not fit neatly into a resume to apply. We are building a diverse, values-aligned team — and we will assess candidates on the totality of what they bring.

    Benefits

    • Benefits include paid family leave; paid sick and vacation leave, employer-sponsored health, dental, and vision coverage; and retirement plan with employer match.
