    Description

    Community Organizer Job Description

Migrant Equity Southeast (MESE) is a Latinx and immigrant-led 501(c)(3) organization based in South Georgia. MESE advocates for immigrant rights and engages in mutual aid, education, and community outreach with migrant and refugee communities across the region. Our work centers liberation, economic justice, and human rights through empowerment, advocacy, and education. We envision a society free of barriers to the social and political participation of migrants and refugees.

Demo Lab South (DLS) is a regional movement infrastructure organization that advances community-led industrial policy, worker power, and multiracial coalition-building across the South. We operate at the intersection of grassroots organizing, policy strategy, and cross-sector partnerships — ensuring that frontline communities shape economic and political decisions affecting their lives. In 2024, Demo Lab South and Migrant Equity Southeast (MESE) began working in close partnership towards implementing protections for undocumented workers in Coastal Georgia. This included a joint response to the Hyundai raid in 2025, one of the largest workplace raids in recent history. Demo Lab will continue working in partnership with MESE by housing the Korean organizer position and providing ongoing campaign support.

    Position Summary

MESE is seeking a Community Organizer to build organizing infrastructure within Korean immigrant communities throughout Coastal Georgia while strengthening multiracial solidarity across the Savannah “Rising Tides” Coalition. This organizer will cultivate relationships with Korean immigrant workers, Korean American residents, faith leaders, small businesses, and community organizations affected by Hyundai's expanding supply chain and the region's rapid industrial growth. Working closely with coalition partners, the organizer will help build a durable Korean organizing base that advances environmental justice, labor rights, language access, and community governance while strengthening relationships between Korean, Black, and Latine communities.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Community Organizing & Leadership Development

    • Build trusted relationships with Korean immigrant workers, families, churches, businesses, civic organizations, and community leaders throughout Coastal Georgia.
    • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, listening sessions, and leadership development activities.
    • Identify, recruit, and develop emerging Korean community leaders.
    • Organize community members to participate in coalition campaigns, public meetings, trainings, and advocacy efforts.
    • Support the development of a sustainable Korean organizing base connected to long-term movement infrastructure.

    Coalition Building & Multiracial Organizing

    • Represent Korean community priorities within the “Rising Tides” Coalition.
    • Strengthen relationships between Korean, Black, Latine, immigrant, labor, faith, and environmental justice partners.
    • Participate in coalition meetings, strategy sessions, working groups, and community events.

    Korean Community Education & Mobilization

    • Educate Korean communities about current and emerging organizing opportunities and their role in shaping industrial development.
    • Support organizing around coalition priorities
    • Mobilize Korean community members for advocacy campaigns, public hearings, and community actions.

    Statewide Movement Building

    • Build relationships with Korean-serving organizations across Georgia.
    • Coordinate with Atlanta-based Korean organizers and statewide immigrant justice partners.
    • Help strengthen organizing infrastructure that connects local campaigns to statewide movement-building efforts.

    Preferred Qualifications

We recognize that strong organizers come from many backgrounds and encourage applicants with transferable experience to apply.

    Ideal candidates will possess:

    • Fluency in Korean and English (spoken and written).
    • Experience in community organizing, labor organizing, advocacy, or movement building.
    • Strong relationships within Korean immigrant and/or Korean American communities.
    • Experience facilitating meetings, trainings, or leadership development.
    • Commitment to immigrant justice, racial justice, labor rights, and environmental justice
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating across diverse coalitions
