Description
RIF Asylum Support is seeking a Consulting Immigration/Asylum Attorney to facilitate our monthly in-person community legal information sessions in Manhattan.
These meetings are designed to provide reliable legal information to asylum seekers navigating the U.S. immigration court system. The attorney will answer general and specific questions, explain immigration court procedures, and help connect participants with appropriate legal resources.
This position does not involve legal representation or the establishment of an attorney-client relationship.
Responsibilities
- Provide general legal consultations during RIF’s monthly in-person community meetings (approximately 2 hours per month).
- Explain the immigration court process for asylum seekers, including:
- The steps involved in applying for asylum before the immigration court.
- What participants can expect during different stages of their case.
- General information about immigration procedures and policies.
- Answer general asylum- and immigration-related questions from participants.
Qualifications
- J.D. and admission to practice law in the United States.
- Experience in immigration law, particularly asylum and removal proceedings.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex legal concepts in accessible language.
- Experience working with immigrant communities is preferred.
- Spanish and English. French is desirable .
Compensation
- $150 per hour
- Meetings take place once per month (the first Saturday of each month) in Manhattan and typically last 2 hours.
- The attorney will submit an invoice to RIF following each meeting.
Level of Language Proficiency
Spanish and English. French is desirable.
