amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, is seeking a dynamic and strategic Development Coordinator, Prospect Research.

Since 1985, amfAR has raised nearly $950 million in support of its programs and has awarded more than 3,800 grants to research teams worldwide.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
- Responsible for conducting, updating and maintaining research on individual, foundation, and corporate constituents and prospective donors. Support frontline fundraisers with portfolio management and developing donor pipeline strategies.
- The Development Coordinator, Prospect Research, plays a significant role in supporting the team, ensuring frontline fundraisers are fully prepared and positioned to successfully build relationships with prospects and donors.
- Develop a keen understanding of amfAR’s full complement of programs and initiatives, with the goal of guiding program direction and interest for prospective donors.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct requested and proactive prospect research for corporations, foundations, individual major gift prospects and donors
- In advance of amfAR events, work with frontline fundraisers, special events team, and IT to prepare research on event attendees and populate amfAR research platform
- Produce clear and precise research briefs, profiles, prospect lists and reports for CEO, CDO, Philanthropy and Special Events teams. Ensure that information is properly organized and stored according to best practice.
- Oversee wealth screenings and validate giving capacity ratings of donors. Segment donors into prospect pools for major giving, mid-level giving, direct response giving, planned giving, events, and leadership giving activities.
- Conduct foundation and corporate research for new grant applications. Proactively identify new institutional prospects.
- Work closely with with frontline fundraisers on the Philanthropy team to deliver qualified prospective donors, additional research findings, and recommend donor engagement strategies for individuals, including direct response donors, and institutional.
- Assist with donor stewardship by researching select recent donors based on giving level or data analytics scores and placing them in cultivation pipeline as qualified.
- Utilize donor data to increase direct response revenue by developing targeted audience segmentation strategies for campaigns.
- Update and maintain donor database records as necessary. Work with data team to create best practices for tracking donors, portfolios, and prospect research data in Salesforce.
- Working with Chief Development Officer, manage donor acknowledgement correspondence, using this opportunity to identify donors with potential for increased or alternate methods of giving
- Leverage AI tools to support and accelerate research, data summarization, grant reporting, and research communications, while ensuring accuracy and adherence to amfAR’s data privacy and confidentiality standards
- Manage online and print research tools for staff. Manage relationship and serve as the main contact for external research tool vendors.
- Assist with the Philanthropy team’s overall efforts to pursue data-driven fundraising techniques to maximize revenue in support of our mission.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS and 2-3 years of prospect research or fundraising experience. Strong research and writing skills, familiarity with prospect management, database aptitude, and wealth screening experience preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently. Essential qualities include initiative, curiosity, resourcefulness and ability to prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Must exhibit leadership, team-orientation, self-direction, and keen analytical and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment and with a multidisciplinary staff of professionals. Flexibility to work extended hours as needed; position may require domestic and/or international travel as requested. Experience with CRM technology/donor databases (Salesforce preferred), and prospect research tools such as LexisNexis, iWave, RelSci and Foundation Directory Online.

This position is in the office in NYC 4 days per week. We are currently on a temporary hybrid work schedule. Relocation assistance is not offered.
