    Description

    Position Summary:

    Teresa's Place is a trauma-informed, queer affirming shelter for youth ages 18–24 experiencing homelessness. The Per Diem Life Skills Worker provides on-call support across shifts, stepping in to engage youth in meaningful, affirming life skills work and ensure a safe, supportive environment. This position is ideal for someone with a flexible schedule and a passion for youth empowerment, crisis response, and community building.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide direct support and supervision to youth at Teresa's Place during scheduled shifts
    • Facilitate or assist with life skills groups, activities, or one-on-one coaching focused on daily living, communication, financial literacy, job readiness, wellness, and identity development
    • Offer trauma-informed, queer inclusive support and modeling during routine shelter or drop-in operations
    • Assist with shelter check-in, documentation, and orientation when working overnight or evening shifts
    • Support youth with conflict resolution, and resource navigation
    • Complete accurate and timely documentation, shift notes, and incident reports
    • Collaborate with full-time staff to maintain consistency of care across shifts
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in all Teresa's Place spaces

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Experience:

    • At least 1 year of experience working with youth, LGBTQIA+ individuals, or in mental health, social services, or shelter environments
    • Experience facilitating groups, workshops, or peer-based spaces preferred
    • Lived experience within queer, trans, or system-impacted communities is highly valued

    Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Relevant experience may substitute for formal education

    Preferred Skills:

    • Strong interpersonal communication and crisis de-escalation skills
    • Cultural humility and a trauma-informed lens
    • Flexibility and comfort working in fast-paced, sometimes unpredictable environments
    • Familiarity with harm reduction, Housing First, and strengths-based practices
    • Bilingual (especially Spanish) a plus

    Working Conditions:

    • Must be available for flexible scheduling, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays as needed
    • Must be able to remain awake and alert throughout assigned shifts
    • Work is in-person at Teresa's Place’s shelter and drop-in center locations
