Education Manager, Community Programs & Engagement

Roundabout Theatre Company, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit theatres, seeks an energetic, self-motivated, and personable individual to join the company as the Education Manager, Community Programs & Engagement.

This person will administer, manage, assess, and produce all Community Partnerships programs including the current audience engagement (Community Nights & Theatre Plus) and public programming (Artist Series & Community Residencies) with our community partners. They will collaborate with colleagues across the organization to explore ways to strengthen existing relationships and build new relationships within our community. This position is part of the Community Partnerships team and reports to the Director of Community Partnerships.

THIS IS SOME OF WHAT THE EDUCATION MANAGER WILL DO:

Community Partnerships

• Oversee the production needs of programs and projects with community partners, including pre-production budgeting, scheduling, Teaching Artist payroll, and other operational logistics.
• Manage logistics of programming and residencies with partner organizations - projects like Community Residencies with Brooklyn Public Library, GreenThumb, New York Public Library, and Queens Public Library.
• Develop and manage program assessment plans for in-person programming including Artist Series and Community Residencies to assess allocation of resources, participant engagement, and explore potential areas of program growth.
  • Serve as on-site event staff and the primary point of contact for community partnership programs.
• Organize and support collaborative meetings with Roundabout leadership.
• Manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of new and existing partnerships and programming.
• Attend non-Roundabout events at partner organizations, arts education conferences, workshops and other events.
• Serving as a steward for the organization by participating in professional development, steering committees, and collectives that are relevant to the work.
• Support events produced by other departments with outreach to partner organizations and attending events and related meetings.

Audience Engagement Programing

• Manage and produce logistics for audience engagement programs including Artist Series, Community Nights, Theatre Plus, and any other wraparound programs including processing artist honorariums, Teaching Artist payroll, and correspondence with third party vendors.
• Schedule and facilitate regular meetings with Roundabout Teaching Artists who facilitate Theatre Plus programming.
• Synthesize and maintain an ongoing, comprehensive theatre-based activities calendar for Roundabout’s Education and Development teams.
  • Manage Teaching Artist payroll and book teaching artists for all audience engagement events.
• Timely reporting on all theatre-based activities.
• Facilitate communications for theatre-based events with all relevant theatre staff.
  • Liaise with theatre staff and synthesize post event reports.
• Schedule and support the productions of Theatre Talks for each production.
• Coordinate accessibility services for engagement events.

Other Program Support

• Communicate artist asks to the Artistic team and track and distribute invitations for artist participation.
• Support in assessing and synthesizing data for Community Partnerships programs, audiences, and participants.
• Maintain Tessitura records for community partner constituents with our pay-what-you-wish functionality and book tickets for community partners, program participants, and any other stakeholders.
• Create, maintain, and update all marketing materials for Community Partnerships programming and events in coordination with Roundabout’s Marketing department.
  • Alongside the Program Manager for Community and Digital Engagement, produce training and learning opportunities for Roundabout Teaching Artists.
  • Provide support to Education Staff to produce Career Training events, Student Matinees, and other essential programming.
• Participate in internal professional development programming.
• Report on opportunities for funders to observe activities.
• In coordination with the Director, track budget expenses across all audience and community partnerships projects.

General Office Support

• • Contribute to the development of financial and statistical reports and protocols for internal and external purposes.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

THIS IS SOME OF WHAT THE EDUCATION MANAGER SHOULD BRING:

• A minimum of 4 years of experience required in the field of arts administration, event producing, or arts education – specifically experience producing in person community and audience engagement programs.
• Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills, including strong time management skills, attention to detail, ability to take initiative, and manage multiple tasks/projects.
• Advanced knowledge in computer software skills such as Microsoft Office (especially Microsoft Excel), QuickBooks, Tessitura, Adobe Creative Suite, CRM, and Form Assembly.
• Some weekend and evening in person hours are required. For example, Community Nights are generally in the evenings, and Theatre Plus events are during Saturday matinee performances.
• A solutions-oriented approach to assessing program goals, challenges, and other areas of growth.
• Strong organization and communication skills.
• Experience in civic engagement and/or community-centered organizations or initiatives.
• A strong team spirit and willingness to adapt to programmatic and organizational evolution.
• Ability to work within existing systems and programs while showing adeptness on ways to improve and/or design new systems that align with current organizational priorities and practices.
• Experience building consensus with a broad range of partners in a variety of communities; particularly with a strong understanding and commitment in promoting belonging and an ability to engage respectfully with individuals from historically marginalized NYC neighborhoods and intergenerational communities.
• A general knowledge of all aspects of professional theatre.
• Experience collaborating with people with disabilities is a plus.
• Digital production experience is a plus.
• Experience writing or contributing to grant applications is a plus.
• Multilingual skills a plus.
• Able to lift 20 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.

The salary is $65,000 annually plus any overtime for hours worked over 40 in a workweek. This is a full-time position with the standard Roundabout benefits package that includes medical plan, dental, vision, 401k with 5% employer contribution, PTO, LTD, and life insurance.

LOCATION AND HOURS:

Roundabout’s Education Offices are located on the 3rd Floor of the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. An elevator is available for the majority of the time, however, there are times that the elevator is not available. The general schedule is Monday-Friday 10am - 6pm with some weekend and evening hours required. This role is hybrid and requires in person work throughout New York City.
