    Description

    Position Summary

    The RSC Program Assistant is an entry-level, part-time role that supports Richmond Senior Center participants with daily activities, social connection, and program participation, including helping integrate participants with developmental disabilities into the center’s programs and community life. This position helps create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment by assisting with activity setup and breakdown, supporting recreational and creative programs, leading basic technology activities, and interacting with seniors throughout the day.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Daily Program and Activity Support

    • Assist with setup and breakdown for daily programs, activities, and lunch service.
    • Support participant activities such as crafts, ping pong, walking groups, conversation circles, and other recreational programs.
    • Help lead or support basic technology classes and assist participants with simple technology questions during scheduled programming.
    • Provide hands-on help during activities, including preparing materials, organizing supplies, and encouraging participation.
    • Assist with special events, celebrations, and seasonal programs as assigned.
    • Help track participant attendance and enter data into an online database

    Participant Engagement

    • Welcome participants and engage seniors in friendly conversation during programs, lunch, and informal gathering times.
    • Encourage participant involvement in daily activities, help reduce barriers to participation, and support meaningful integration of participants with developmental disabilities into group programs and social activities.
    • Provide respectful, patient, and culturally responsive support to older adults and adults with disabilities.
    • Help maintain a welcoming, organized, and participant-centered environment at the Richmond Senior Center.

    Communications and Social Media Support

    • Help gather photos, stories, activity highlights, and other content ideas for social media and program promotion, following organizational guidelines and participant consent procedures.
    • Assist with promoting daily activities and special events to participants onsite.
    • Share participant feedback, interests, and program ideas with the Senior Program Director and center staff.

    General Support

    • Assist staff with light administrative and program support tasks as needed.
    • Help keep program spaces tidy, stocked, and ready for participant use.
    • Follow safety procedures and communicate participant needs or concerns to the appropriate staff member.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
    • Friendly, reliable, and patient approach to working with older adults and adults with disabilities.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with participants, staff, volunteers, and community members.
    • Comfort assisting with group activities, light setup and cleanup, and basic technology support.
    • Dependable attendance and ability to work the stated part-time schedule.

    Preferred

    • Experience volunteering, working, or participating in community programs, senior services, recreation, education, hospitality, customer service, or related settings.
    • Comfort leading or assisting with simple technology instruction.
    • Bilingual English and Cantonese/Mandarin, Russian, Spanish,
    • Interest in working with older adults and supporting an inclusive, community-centered environment.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the center while supporting daily activities, programs, and participant engagement.
    • Ability to lift, carry, and transport activity materials, supplies, and lightweight equipment as needed.
    • Ability to assist with setup and breakdown of program spaces, including moving and breaking down tables, stacking chairs, arranging activity materials, and helping return spaces to order after programs and lunch service.

    Work Environment

    Work is performed primarily onsite at the Richmond Senior Center in San Francisco, CA. This is a part-time position scheduled for exactly 20 hours per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Occasional schedule adjustments may be requested for special events or program needs.
