    Description

    GreenWorks is Joe's environmental stewardship and workforce development initiative. Through urban forestry, green infrastructure, climate resilience, and environmental education, GreenWorks empowers young adults and community members to improve neighborhoods while building skills for careers in the green economy.

    Position Overview

    Joe's Movement Emporium seeks a visionary and results-oriented GreenWorks Director to lead and expand a growing environmental stewardship and workforce development initiative serving Prince George's County.

    The GreenWorks Director provides strategic leadership for urban forestry, environmental workforce development, tree planting, community engagement, grants management, and partnership development. The Director oversees day-to-day program operations while helping shape the long-term growth and sustainability of GreenWorks.

    The ideal candidate combines expertise in urban forestry or environmental programming with strong leadership, project management, grants administration, and community engagement skills. This position offers a unique opportunity to advance climate resilience, environmental equity, and workforce development through a community-centered approach.

    The GreenWorks Director reports to the Operations Manager and Executive Director, working in close partnership with organizational leadership to oversee program strategy, staffing, project implementation, partnerships, grant management, and budget performance.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Leadership & Strategy

    • Lead the vision, planning, implementation, and growth of GreenWorks programs and initiatives.
    • Develop annual work plans, goals, performance measures, and program priorities.
    • Identify opportunities for program expansion, strategic partnerships, and new funding.
    • Oversees consultants, contractors, and vendor relationships associated with GreenWorks projects and initiatives.
    • Ensure programs align with organizational mission, strategic priorities, and community needs.
    • Represent GreenWorks in community, municipal, nonprofit, and environmental sector partnerships.
    • Serve as a visible ambassador for GreenWorks and Joe's Movement Emporium throughout the region.

    Urban Forestry & Environmental Stewardship

    • Direct implementation of urban forestry and environmental enhancement projects throughout Prince George's County.
    • Oversee planting, establishment, and maintenance of approximately 1,500 trees annually.
    • Coordinate tree care schedules, site assessments, and stewardship activities.
    • Support invasive species management, habitat restoration, and other environmental initiatives.
    • Maintain high standards for environmental practices, site safety, and project implementation.
    • Identify future planting sites and opportunities for environmental impact.

    Workforce Development & Staff Supervision

    • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate GreenWorks staff, crew leaders, interns, and program participants.
    • Lead environmental workforce development activities that provide career pathways for young adults and emerging professionals.
    • Coordinate professional development, job-readiness training, and leadership opportunities.
    • Foster an inclusive, supportive, and high-performing team culture.
    • Develop staffing plans and operational structures that support program growth.

    Community Engagement & Partnerships

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with residents, community organizations, municipalities, schools, environmental groups, and funders.
    • Coordinate community tree planting events, volunteer projects, and environmental stewardship activities.
    • Support environmental education initiatives and community outreach campaigns.
    • Facilitate community participation in greening and climate resilience efforts.
    • Promote equitable access to environmental resources and investments in historically underserved communities.

    Grants Management, Compliance & Reporting

    • Manage implementation of grant-funded programs and ensure compliance with all funder requirements.
    • Develop and maintain systems for tracking program activities, environmental outcomes, workforce development outcomes, and community engagement metrics.
    • Collect, organize, and analyze program data to measure impact and support continuous improvement.
    • Prepare timely and accurate grant reports, narratives, supporting documentation, and deliverables.
    • Maintain records related to tree plantings, maintenance activities, participant engagement, partner contributions, expenditures, and project outcomes.
    • Coordinate with finance and leadership staff to ensure accurate budget tracking and financial reporting.
    • Support grant proposal development by providing program data, work plans, outcomes, budgets, and evaluation information.
    • Prepare for audits, monitoring visits, and funder reviews as required.

    Operations & Asset Management

    • Maintain operational systems, databases, project management tools, and program records.
    • Oversee inventory, maintenance, and replacement of equipment, vehicles, and tools.
    • Develop and improve program procedures and documentation.
    • Ensure effective scheduling, logistics, procurement, and resource allocation.
    • Coordinate contractors, consultants, and service providers as needed.

    Safety & Risk Management

    • Establish and enforce safety policies and field protocols.
    • Conduct safety training and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
    • Monitor field operations and address safety concerns proactively.
    • Ensure safe operation of equipment, vehicles, and work sites.

    Level of Language Proficiency
