    Description

    About NYC Civic Corps

Join NYC Civic Corps to serve full-time at a City agency or nonprofit from September 2026 to June 2027.

Whether you’re a recent grad or a career switcher, this is the perfect program to channel your passions, build professional networks, and hone skills in community outreach, volunteer management, and program development.

    Organization and Position Summary

Broadway Community’s mission is to serve as a bridge from crisis to stability for New Yorkers experiencing homelessness, hunger, mental illness, and social isolation. Located on 114th Street and Broadway, the organization offers a broad range of services including a soup kitchen, seven-night-a-week shelter, food pantry, on-site medical services, showers, case management, counseling, employment assistance, housing navigation, and more.

The goal of the Community Outreach & Engagement member is to connect more Guests in need -- and more neighbors who want to help -- to Broadway Community’s services, support groups, and volunteer opportunities. Working under the supervision of the Executive Director, the member will manage outreach and communications by creating social media content, designing and distributing flyers, and promoting support groups and programs within the soup kitchen so Guests understand the full range of available services. The member will also respond to inquiries from community partners and help coordinate volunteer groups from schools, congregations, and companies.

The member will represent Broadway Community at off-site tabling events, ensuring that local residents, shelters, and community organizations are aware of the organization’s free, low-barrier services.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and organizer who is detail-oriented, comfortable working across diverse communities, interested in social justice and homelessness, and eager to learn nonprofit communications and volunteer management in a fast-paced, team-based environment.

Objective 1: Onboarding and Organizational Learning

Broadway Community will introduce the member to staff, programs, projects, and stakeholders relevant to their goals, while providing onboarding, guidance, and clear expectations.

    • Create an outreach plan and calendar to expand participation in priority programs
    • Develop and update outreach materials and resource guides
    • Draft and improve newsletter and social media content for regular distribution

Objective 3: Conduct Outreach Campaign and Expand Sustainably

The member will implement outreach efforts, expand the organization’s presence, and develop systems to track and improve engagement over time.

    Member Activities:

    • Represent the organization at community board meetings, events, and with local elected officials
    • Collaborate with partner organizations on outreach, tabling, and canvassing
    • Manage social media engagement, monitor feedback, and track outreach data
    • Support the creation of quarterly performance reports
    • Use data and field insights to recommend improvements to outreach strategies

Objective 4: Strengthen Volunteer Pipelines and Group Engagement

    • Schedule volunteer groups and coordinate logistics for service activities
    • Maintain a tracking system for outreach, participation, and follow-up
    • Gather feedback from group leaders and recommend improvements

Objective 5: Project Closeout and Sustainability
