    Description

    The Housing Rights Center (HRC) serves L.A. City and County along with Ventura County with various housing related services. Our mission is to actively support and promote fair housing through education and advocacy, to ensure all people have the opportunity to secure housing they desire and can afford, without discrimination.

    HRC is seeking a temporary full-time Pro Bono Coordinator to administer our newly created Pro Bono Pilot Program to place pro bono attorneys at our existing housing clinics throughout Los Angeles County. The Pro Bono Coordinator will be responsible for developing the Pro Bono Pilot Program, oversee the administration of the program, and ensure the recruitment and training of pro bono attorneys, and place pro bono attorneys at existing HRC’s housing clinics. The Pro Bono Coordinator will work a hybrid schedule, with three (3) days expected in-office or alternatively attending onsite housing clinics. The successful candidate will be supervised directly by our Deputy Director.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Ensure the creation and development of HRC’s new Pro Bono Pilot Program.
    • Oversee the administration and implementation of HRC’s Pro Bono Pilot Program.
    • Recruit and train pro bono attorneys to provide direct in-person services at HRC’s housing clinics.
    • When necessary, attend housing clinics if pro bono attorneys are not available.
    • Provide ongoing training and technical assistance to pro bono attorneys.
    • Cultivate strong relationships with attorneys, law offices, law firms, in-house counsel offices, or law schools.
    • Collect and report pro bono program data for grant reporting, fundraising and operational activities.
    • Actively participate in and attend networking events at law firms, volunteer events and recruit/outreach events at law schools which will also be require to attend meetings and events outside of normal business hours.
    • Serve as the ambassador for the pro bono program both internally and externally.
    • Recruit and train interns and externs for placement within HRC internal departments.
    • Work with program staff to develop and coordinate training programs for volunteers
    • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of all volunteer training materials, educational resources and information handouts.
    • Adhere to standards of professional responsibility and all internal policies.
    • Participate in HRC’s staff trainings and all-staff meetings.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

      • J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school.
      • Membership in good standing in the California Bar, preferred but not required.
      • Knowledge and experience of California landlord-tenant law preferred but not necessary.
      • A demonstrated sincere interest in helping others.
      • Comfort in presenting trainings and presentations.
      • Strong written, verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills are needed.
      • Excellent, reliable, and detail oriented time management and organizational skills.
      • Excel at navigating professional social events and building professional relationships.
      • Access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel periodically to cover housing clinics and events.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS:

      • Salary range is $80,000-$90,000, depending on experience.* HRC offers an excellent benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance. A 403(b) retirement plan with employer contribution is available after one year of employment. A generous paid holiday, vacation, and sick leave package is also provided.

    • This position is a temporary position with funding available through March 2027, there are no assurances of ongoing funding or employment beyond March 31, 2027.
