    Description

    Clearway School (a small, private special education school for learning-disabled middle and high school students) has an opening for a full-time, special education teacher to teach English starting August 31, 2026.     Responsibilities:

    • Teaching 4 academic science classes and planning daily lessons to address the MA state frameworks with accommodations and modifications based on individual student needs.
    • Serving as the case manager for 3 students. Case managers, which we call educational counselors, meet weekly for a full period one-on-one with the student, help them work towards their IEP goals, and serve as the main contact for the family (typically a weekly phone call).
    • Teaching 2-3 elective classes a week in areas of your interest that are also high interest areas for students.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Current MA Teaching License in Moderate Disabilities 5-12
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Strong content knowledge
    • Strong knowledge of reading comprehension and writing process strategies for students with language based learning disabilities
    • Strong skills in collaboration to work with Orton-Gillingham reading instructors to support students with dyslexia in ELA class
    • Certification as an Orton-Gillingham Instructor preferred
    • Knowledge of the MA state frameworks for middle school grades 7 and 8 as well as high school.
    • Ability to use technology including the Google for Education suite of applications, Smartboards.
    • Ability to implement accommodations and modifications based on student IEPs
    • Ability to write measurable IEP goals
    • Ability to collect data and use the data to report student progress towards IEP goals
    • Ability to connect with families and clearly communicate student progress
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and support staff, including the school clinician and the speech-language pathologist and an interest in using a Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) method to support student growth both academically and socially-emotionally. Training in Collaborative Problem Solving will be provided in the first year of employment.

    • Frequent in-service professional development opportunities, as well as a $1,000 yearly stipend and appropriate related time off for professional development.
    • To teach in our new space with Smartboards in every classroom.
