Salary: Candidates can expect to be offered $116,000 as a new hire in this role.

Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Information Technology assists the Director in the management of IT functions and systems operations as well as the delivery of IT services to end-users. The Assistant Director of Information Technology also works collaboratively with the Director to install, maintain, and support computer systems and communication networks, ensuring systems and networks operate optimally to provide maximum performance and availability to 800+ users.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works in close collaboration with the Director of Information Technology in providing leadership, direction, and guidance to staff and managing operational activities to achieve the department’s long and short-range goals and business objectives.
- Directs the provision of IT support and services, managing the IT department’s work teams and units including Instructional Technology, Help Desk, Server and Network Administration, and Communication services as well as website updates.
- Assists the Director of Information Technology in formulating and implementing policies, procedures, and standards. Implements and manages user support and technical services support models that address and bring resolution to the technical needs of the organization.
- Directs supervisors and IT staff working on projects to assess and improve IT operations and resolve user issues. Leads teams in the design and implementation of customer support and technical support models that address and meet the technical needs of the organization. Makes recommendations for technical improvements to business processes.
- Analyzes, develops, and recommends plans and solutions to operational, management, business process, or organization-wide telecommunications and other IT operations services including hardware and software activities and associated problems.
- Identifies and facilitates training and professional development opportunities for staff to support skill development.
- Develops and maintains a services catalog describing the offerings of IT services and participates in the development of service level agreements for the delivery of those services.
- Identifies opportunities to develop systems that will enhance operational efficiencies; evaluates and recommends new tools and methodologies that will expedite or enhance the operational/development process.
- Assists in preparing, monitoring, and administering the annual budget for the department, including staffing, equipment, and supplies.
- Oversees the inventory and reconciliation of all newly procured technology materials and ensures accurate product tracking and delivery to the appropriate requesting department. Maintains detailed and up-to-date records of all technology purchases.
- Coordinates reviews and analyzes requests for proposals ensuring compliance with technical specifications.
- Works collaboratively to coordinate system availability, performance management, and capacity planning issues; ensures timely, accurate, and prompt turnaround of work orders/requests.
- Monitors workload statistics in support of achieving service level agreement goals; and reviews plans for new construction, remodeling, or requests for telecommunications and data communications services requirements.
- Acts on behalf of the Director of Information Technology in his absence as directed.
Qualifications and requirements:
Required qualifications
- 5+ years progressive IT experience, including 1 to 3+ years in a lead or supervisory capacity (team lead, senior sysadmin, IT manager, or equivalent)
- Proven track record leading day-to-day IT operations while delivering projects on time (cloud, security, infrastructure, and business apps)
- Strong stakeholder communication and documentation skills (runbooks, SOPs, change plans, post-incident summaries)
Project management and delivery
- Hands-on Project Management across multiple concurrent initiatives
- Strong project controls: scope, requirements, timeline, dependency tracking, risk management, change control, and executive reporting
- Experience with modern PM tooling (ClickUp, Jira, Azure DevOps, Smartsheet, etc.)
- Ability to lead vendors/MSPs and enforce SLAs, escalation paths, and outcomes
Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration
- Deep Microsoft 365 administration experience across:
o Entra ID (Azure AD): RBAC, PIM (if licensed), SSO, identity lifecycle, Conditional Access, MFA, access reviews
o Exchange Online: mail flow, transport rules, shared mailboxes, retention policies
o SharePoint Online/OneDrive: information architecture, permissions governance, sharing controls, migrations
o Teams: policy governance, external access, app permissions and lifecycle
- Solid understanding of Microsoft 365 licensing (Business Premium, E3/E5), security add-ons, and cost optimization
Intune and endpoint management (required, hands-on)
- Microsoft Intune administration with real-world policy ownership:
o Enrollment strategies (Autopilot preferred), device compliance policies, configuration profiles, and application deployment
o Endpoint security policies (AV, firewall, attack surface reduction where applicable)
o Update management strategy (Windows Update rings, feature updates, expedited updates as applicable)
o Mobile device management for iOS/Android (if applicable): app protection policies, conditional access integration
- Strong Windows endpoint administration and troubleshooting (performance, drivers, profile issues, security baselines)
Microsoft Defender security stack (required, hands-on)
- Experience administering Microsoft Defender capabilities aligned to your licensing, such as:
o Defender for Endpoint: onboarding, security baselines, alert triage, investigation workflows, device isolation and remediation
o Defender for Office 365: anti-phishing, safe links/attachments, threat policies, quarantine review workflows
o Defender for Cloud Apps (if in use): app governance, session controls, shadow IT visibility
- Ability to operationalize security: alert tuning, incident runbooks, reporting, and continuous improvement
PowerShell and automation (required)
- Advanced PowerShell proficiency for Microsoft 365 and endpoint/security automation:
o Microsoft Graph PowerShell (and Graph API concepts), Exchange Online PowerShell, Intune automation patterns
o Scripts with logging, error handling, scheduling, and version control (Git)
- Automation experience for onboarding/offboarding, group and license management, reporting, security audits, and bulk admin actions
Website development and programming skills (required)
- Practical website troubleshooting and development ability:
o HTML, CSS, JavaScript fundamentals
o WordPress administration (plugins/themes, performance, security hardening) strongly preferred
o Server-side familiarity (PHP, Node.js, or Python) and REST API integration basics
o DNS, SSL/TLS, WAF/CDN concepts (Cloudflare a plus), caching, uptime monitoring
- Ability to diagnose web stack issues: forms, email deliverability, database connections, permissions, performance
Infrastructure, networking, and operations
- Strong fundamentals in networking: DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, routing basics, Wi-Fi, troubleshooting methodology
- Backup and disaster recovery planning, including periodic restore testing
- Asset lifecycle management and standardized endpoint provisioning
Security, governance, and compliance mindset
- Demonstrated security-first administration: least privilege, separation of duties, secure admin practices, baseline hardening
- Experience with policy-driven governance: access reviews, retention, data loss prevention concepts, device compliance enforcement
- Familiarity with common compliance frameworks (HIPAA/SOC 2/GDPR/CCPA concepts), and translating requirements into controls
Preferred qualifications
- Microsoft certifications (any combination): MD-102, MS-102, SC-300, SC-200, AZ-104
- ITIL Foundation and/or strong ITIL-aligned operations (incident/problem/change)
- Experience with tenant migrations, Autopilot at scale, and advanced Conditional Access design
- Experience integrating Defender alerts into ticketing workflows and building KPI reporting
Education, Training, and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited organization or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) certification preferred.
- Advanced computer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint).
