    Job Title: Distributed Organizing Fellow

Reports to: Senior Digital Organizer, with additional supervision provided by Director of Integrated Campaigns

Location: Fully Remote; must reside in California

    Status: Part-Time, Remote role, 5-10 hours/week

    Start & End Date: February 2, 2026 to April 15, 2026

    Company Overview

Golden State Opportunity (GSO) is a nonprofit dedicated to ending poverty by providing all Californians with the tools to build financial wellbeing and thrive. GSO is led by doers who educate, engage, and empower working families. Our groundbreaking, culturally relevant work in thirteen languages reaches millions of low-income Californians and connects them with the financial resources they need to survive and then thrive.

We get things done through grassroots advocacy and partnerships with community-based organizations, and what we learn from this on-the-ground work informs our policy advocacy. GSO began with a legislative victory led by and for low-income workers and families. Since then, we have fought to expand access to the CalEITC, federal EITC, higher wage jobs, and other anti-poverty solutions.

    Job Summary

GSO’s Organizing Fellowship is an opportunity for aspiring leaders in nonprofit, anti-poverty, or advocacy work to gain critical organizing and leadership skills. The fellow will use our broadcast texting platform to engage with more than 2 million low-income Californians about federal, state, and local benefits that they may be eligible to receive.

The fellow will graduate not only with practical skills and knowledge, but as a part of a network of passionate leaders in the anti-poverty workspace. As part of the program, the fellow will regularly meet with GSO leadership to learn about nonprofit, anti-poverty, and advocacy careers.

    Schedule & Seasonal Workflow

The Fellow role is part-time and tightly aligned with the 2026 CalEITC SMS campaign. We can work with fellows to craft a schedule between the hours of 9AM-8PM Monday-Friday, 5-10 hours a week for the duration of the fellowship.

    • Feb 2–8: Onboarding & Launch Prep
    • ~5 hours total over 2–3 days focused on orientation, tools and privacy training, learning tag taxonomy and tone, practicing with canned replies, and locking coverage time blocks for Outreach #1.
    • Feb 9–Apr 15: Main Campaign (Reply Coverage)
    • ~5–10 hours per week across 3–5 days, with time increasing around send days. The Fellow provides live reply coverage in English/Spanish, tags contacts (filer/supporter/language), surfaces common questions, and helps refine scripts between phases (Outreach #1, #2, #3, and the Final Push to Tax Day).
    • Weekly Rhythm (Feb–Apr)
    • Mon/Tue: support sends and early replies
    • Wed: ongoing reply + tagging coverage
    • Thu/Fri: 30 minute team check in, log results (clicks, replies, time on page) and flag changes for the next phase.
    • Apr 15: Wrap-Up
    • Close coverage hours, document insights, and update canned replies for future campaigns.

This role requires flexibility to meet program and community outreach needs.
