    Job Title: Executive Director

    ABOUT LA COLMENA: La Colmena empowers immigrant workers and their families through education, organizing, culture, and economic development. To this end, La Colmena provides a space where workers learn and assert their rights, develop their leadership and become active members in their community. Founded in 2014 by community members as a worker cooperative, La Colmena has experienced significant growth over the past twelve years. La Colmena operates through private funding and public contracts with the City of New York from two north shore locations in Staten Island, with 22 staff and a budget of $4.6 million dollars.

    POSITION OVERVIEW: The Executive Director is responsible for the oversight of programming that empowers participants of La Colmena and builds campaigns. Additionally, the Executive Director develops and executes strategy to increase community engagement and raise visibility among Staten Island employers and community at large. In order to sustain La Colmena’s mission, the Executive Director is also responsible for securing funds.

    ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Leadership & Management:

    • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems;
    • Actively engage and energize La Colmena’s staff, board, partnering organizations, and funders.
    • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction
    • Lead, coach, develop, and retain La Colmena's staff

    Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components to effectively communicate outcomes to the board, funders, and members

    Fundraising & Communications:

    • Raise funds to sustain and/or grow the organization’s impact and profile as needed
    • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications
    • Develop and implement La Colmena’s Fundraising and sustainability plan

    Planning & New Programs:

    • Lead the design and implementation of La Colmena’s Strategic Plan
    • Begin to build partnerships in new areas, establishing relationships with funders, and political and community leaders
    • Be an external local and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes achieved

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent yearsʼ experience at minimum; Master's degree preferred
    • Professional experience in the New York City area preferred
    • Willing to relocate if necessary
    • Thoroughly committed to La Colmenaʼs mission with a passion for workers and immigrant rights;
    • Proven success with community empowerment, grassroots leadership, relationship management experience, fundraising, grant writing, and government contract experience
    • Excellent communication skills in both Spanish and English spoken and written
    • 3-5 years experience in a senior leadership role

    SALARY RANGE: $160,000 - $180,000 (depending on experience)
