The Communications & Outreach Manager serves as the voice of Eastside Audubon, leading all external communications, community engagement, and outreach efforts. This role combines strategic communications with essential administrative support, ensuring the organization connects effectively with members, partners, and the broader community while maintaining smooth day-to-day operations.
Primary Responsibilities
Communications & Content
- Edit and distribute the monthly newsletter, coordinating content from contributors and ensuring quality and timeliness
- Develop and maintain a communications calendar to align messaging across all channels
- Assist with member communications, including email announcements and event reminders
- Serve as a point of contact for general inquiries from the public, members, and partner organizations
- Draft press releases, blog posts, and other content to promote programs and conservation initiatives
Social Media & Digital Outreach
- Manage and maintain Eastside Audubon’s social media presence across platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, YouTube)
- Create and schedule regular posts to promote events, programs, conservation news, and member highlights
- Monitor social media channels and respond to comments, messages, and engagement from the community
- Track social media metrics and provide regular reports to inform outreach strategy
Community Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations, media contacts, and community stakeholders
- Support the promotion and outreach efforts for events, programs, and ongoing initiatives
- Identify opportunities to expand Eastside Audubon’s visibility and community reach
Website & Digital Presence
- Maintain and update the Eastside Audubon website (Squarespace or similar platform), ensuring content is current, accurate, and visually engaging
- Publish new pages, blog posts, event listings, and resource materials to the website on a regular basis
- Ensure the website delivers an enhanced mobile experience, is fully responsive across all devices, and is aligned with the organization’s brand and messaging
- Design and optimize the mobile web experience to ensure visitors can easily access events, resources, and membership information on smartphones and tablets
- Coordinate with volunteers and board members to gather and publish relevant content
- Monitor website analytics to track visitor engagement and identify opportunities for improvement
Qualifications
Required
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Experience with social media management and content creation
- Proficiency with website management platforms (e.g., Squarespace, WordPress, Wix), including creating mobile-optimized web experiences
- Proficiency with common office software (email, word processing, spreadsheets, calendar tools)
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision
- Reliable and responsive, with a professional and friendly demeanor
Preferred
- Experience with databases, CRM systems, or membership management tools
- Familiarity with newsletter editing, email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact), or social media scheduling tools
- Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva) for creating visual content
- Knowledge of SEO basics and web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics)
- Interest in or experience with nonprofit organizations, conservation, or wildlife
- Experience supporting a board of directors or committee-based organization
Compensation
This is a part-time contract position at $26.00 per hour for approximately 20 hours per week, with an estimated annual compensation of approximately $27,000. The initial contract period is three months, with the possibility of extension to one year based on performance and organizational needs
