ABOUT THE STREET VENDOR PROJECT
Founded in 2001, the Street Vendor Project (SVP) is a grassroots membership-led organization working to defend the rights and achieve just working conditions of the community of workers, self-employed people and small business owners who make their living as vendors on the streets and sidewalks of New York City. Through direct leadership development, education, legal support, and strategic legislative advocacy, SVP builds power and community among vendors in the fight to legalize street vending.
ABOUT THE POSITION
SVP is seeking a versatile, highly organized Development Associate to work closely with the Development Director and the Managing Director to provide holistic administrative support to achieve the organization’s development goals.
We are seeking a new team member with experience working within multicultural, working class and immigrant communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses exceptional communication skills, including demonstrated strong writing skills, and is passionate about SVP’s mission;
- Pays high attention to detail, excellent in time-management, self-managed individual;
- Has at least two years of combined experience in fundraising, grant management, reporting, or executive administration in nonprofit organizations;
- Relentlessly dedicated to building the power of working class, immigrant communities of color to incite transformative social and economic justice movement building;
- Excited about working across multiple cultures and is flexible and patient when communicating with people who speak different languages;
- A team player eager to collaborate with diverse, inter-generational, and multicultural stakeholders to achieve systemic change;
- Must be Bilingual in Spanish and English, written and spoken.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibilities of the Development Associate include:
Development & Fundraising:
- Conduct research on prospective foundations, corporate sponsors, and other funding sources and assist with grant preparation and proposals.
- Assist in drafting funders' communications, including newsletters, funder briefings, and letters of interest.
- Communicate with team members about the grants deliverables and ensure thorough reporting.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors, maintaining accurate records in our database.
- Coordinate logistics for fundraising events, donor cultivation events, and activities to engage the broader community of SVP.
- Process and track financial contributions
Executive Assistant and Office Management Support
- Proactively manage complex calendars, prioritizing meetings, and resolving scheduling conflicts.
- Screen emails, phone calls, and correspondence, acting as the primary point of contact for external stakeholders.
- Prepare agendas, compile briefing materials, and take detailed minutes during meetings.
- Receive visitors to the office and direct them to the appropriate team member for support.
- Manage the office space and ensure easy access to important materials and documents.
- Like most roles in a small organization, this role requires a high level of flexibility and adaptability as duties, tasks and priorities can shift based on the organization’s needs and what’s delegated by the supervisors.
