    ROLE: LEGAL INTAKE COORDINATOR

    LOCATION: AUSTIN, TX

    The Legal Intake Coordinator advances Workers Defense’s Employment Legal Services program to screen calls from its members and the community about potential employment legal claims and coordinate case files, intakes, and referrals.

    THE ROLE IN ACTION:

    • Manage the Employment Legal Services legal line
      • Ensure calls are returned in a timely manner.
      • Keep a detailed and updated log of legal line calls.
      • Identify callers for potential intakes.
      • Educate callers about WDP’s membership model and connect them to New Member Orientation or other opportunities within the organization.
      • Provide correct and complete reports of ELS calls and people served.
    • Coordinate Legal Case Work
      • Screen members and community as prospective clients for legal claims
      • Manage physical and electronic case files and contacts in internal databases
      • Relay client communications under the supervision of an attorney
      • Provide referrals to clients / members
      • Identify client-members that have leadership potential and refer them to organizing team
      • Review and prepare intake forms for bi-weekly Colectivas de los Defensores Laborales where members and volunteers assist fellow members in employment disputes and educate one another on labor rights
    • Community education and engagement
      • Support with Labor Know Your Rights workshops about 5 times a year
      • Support volunteer and intern training on call log, screening calls, and intakes
      • Support base building by connecting new members to the organization’s campaigns, programs, and committees.
    • Complete administrative functions including evaluations, plans, timesheets, etc.
    • Provide as needed support to Legal Services team in Houston and Dallas, campaigns, actions, events and meetings
    • Support with grassroots fundraising efforts
    • Support cross-programmatic campaigns, actions, events and meetings
    • Any other activities that are necessary to carry out the work of Workers Defense

    WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

    • Excellent written and oral communication
    • Fluent in English and Spanish
    • Basic computer literacy (PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, slack & Internet)
    • Ability to work independently and juggle multiple responsibilities
    • Ability and flexibility for some travel, primarily instate
    • Ability to do in person work; support with member events and fundraising events
    • Skilled at motivating and inspiring others to take action
    • Knowledge of community organizing, labor issues, or immigration and employment law
    • Commitment to racial and economic justice.
    • Ability to drive and operate a vehicle. Will need to transport themselves to meetings etc.

    • Workers Defense has a salary scale that is based on experience. Starting hourly pay for this position is $28 an hour.
    • A $500 annual bilingual language stipend.
    • Paid vacation and sick time.
    • Office closure during 4th of July week, Thanksgiving week and during Christmas in addition to paid holidays
