    Description

    The National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) is a growing institution that provides insight into the evolving, human, and aesthetic nature of mathematics to a diverse audience of all ages. Its interactive exhibits and stimulating programs encourage inquiry, spark curiosity, and reveal the wonders of math.

    MoMath is seeking a Patron Assistant to help steward membership, donor, and customer relationships. The Patron Assistant will provide administrative support to membership programs, fundraising efforts, and customer queries covering a variety of programs and topics. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, a strong desire to provide exceptional customer service, and a proven ability to follow through on all patron communications.

    This is an on-site, regular full-time position located in New York City. It offers a full suite of benefits.

    Your job responsibilities as Patron Relations Assistant will include the following:

    • Aid in the tracking the Museum’s obligations with respect to each member, donor, and sponsor, to ensure they are being met;
    • Providing donors and sponsors with expeditious acknowledgement of all donations
    • Replying to inquiries and requests related to fundraising, membership, events, and other customer requests in a professional, timely manner;
    • Maintaining records of all fundraising and membership activity in the development database;
    • Recording donations and membership payments, including scans of appropriate documentation; providing administrative support for all development efforts, ranging from mailings and scanning to coordination of fundraising events;
    • Keeping management abreast of specific patron requests and obligations, and of the progress towards meeting them;
    • Responding to all patron queries within one business day; coordinating with management to determine appropriate responses
    • Processing new memberships and membership renewals within one week, preparing member cards, and sending welcome letters;
    • Creating and maintaining donor lists to allow appropriate recognition on the MoMath website and in the Museum;
    • Contacting members regarding upcoming expirations; collaborating with accounting personnel to ensure that donations and membership payments are reconciled with accounting records on a monthly basis, and that discrepancies are investigated and resolved;
    • Keeping MoMath management updated on corporate memberships and overall membership policies; maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the membership process; working towards the goal of generating growth through increasing individual, family, and corporate memberships;
    • Improving engagement with corporate members; and representing MoMath with an upbeat and positive attitude and demeanor in a variety of administrative interactions.
    • Responding to event and other revenue-generating requests including but not limited to birthday parties, group events, and general program queries.

    Also note that everyone may be asked from time to time to pitch in on a variety of tasks, from stamping envelopes to carrying boxes and collating papers etc.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of three years in a relevant role preferred, but strong entry-level candidates will be considered
    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
    • Superb organization skills and attention to detail
    • A successful record of administrative problem-solving and trouble-shooting
    • Extraordinary presentations skills in writing, on the phone, and in person.
    • A strong sense of professionalism and responsibility
    • The drive and patience to roll up sleeves and ensure that the minutiae of a complex plan fit together perfectly
    • Comfort with and a positive attitude toward mathematics, and/or a passion for education or museums preferred but not required
