    Description

    At a glance:

Platform: Drupal 10.5, hosted on Pantheon. The site needs to move to Drupal 11, as Drupal 10 reaches end of life on December 9, 2026.

Commerce: Drupal Commerce with Stripe and PayPal, for memberships and online purchases

Hours: About 10 to 15 per month on average, more during the initial project and the Drupal 11 upgrade

Engagement: An initial project, then an ongoing independent contractor relationship; individuals or small agencies welcome

Location: Remote, US-based, with at least a few hours of overlap with US Pacific business hours on weekdays

Start: As soon as possible, with the exact date agreed during initial scoping

Rate: Please propose an hourly rate

    Getting started

We'll start with a defined, paid initial project: an assessment of the site and initial fixes, with its own scope and fee. We expect it to take roughly 15 to 20 hours at your hourly rate, assuming the site is in reasonable shape, and we'll confirm the scope together after an intro call. When it's complete, we'll decide together on an ongoing maintenance agreement.

    • Update core to a supported Drupal 10 release
    • Review the site's technical state: core, contributed and custom modules, custom templates, integrations, and the status report
    • Assess what the Drupal 11 upgrade will take, including contributed modules, custom templates and code, and provide an estimate
    • Fix anything urgent (site down, checkout broken, or a security issue)
    • Review the recommendations from a recent security and continuity audit, which we'll share with you, and implement the items we agree on together, such as multi-factor authentication for administrators and a simpler admin role structure
    • Review our Commerce setup with input from staff on what's working and what isn't, and recommend any changes
    • Deliver a short, written summary of findings and recommended priorities

The Drupal 11 upgrade itself will be scoped and agreed separately, based on the assessment.

    Ongoing work

    • Monthly security patches and core and module updates, tested in the development and test environments before they go live
    • Troubleshooting and fixes when something breaks, including templates or layouts affected by updates
    • Advice on how to get what we need within Drupal's standard capabilities
    • Help when staff hit a problem adding or editing content, coordinated through Robert (the content itself stays with staff)
    • A brief log of changes made to the site

    How we work together

    • All work requests come to you through Robert, our point of contact for the site. When Robert is unavailable, we'll name another team member to cover.
    • Work runs against a monthly hour estimate we agree on in advance. If a request falls outside the agreed scope or would take the month beyond its estimate, please flag it before starting.
    • All accounts, code, and repositories connected to the site are owned by ITPI.

You'll be a good fit if you

    • Have maintained production Drupal 9 or 10 sites, including security updates and module management
    • Have upgraded Drupal sites across major versions, ideally Drupal 10 to 11
    • Have worked with Drupal Commerce and payment gateway integrations
    • Prefer standard, maintainable solutions to heavy customization, and will tell us when a request would make the site harder to maintain
    • Explain technical issues clearly and patiently to non-technical people
    • Respond reliably, including on short notice when something breaks
    • Enjoy being a steady resource for a small team
    • Experience with Pantheon, with nonprofit clients, or with preventing spam on web forms is a plus.
