Location: Brooklyn NY / Hybrid

Manages: Relevant Coordinators, including Circulation Coordinator

Overview
The Membership and Circulation Manager (MCM) oversees the day-to-day execution of how BOMB reaches, builds, and sustains its audience, thinking in weekly and quarterly strategic cycles in close coordination with the Director of Audience Engagement and Growth (DAEG). The role helps oversee BOMB’s circulation distribution and fulfillment, membership program operations (including drives with partner organizations), and retention efforts–all integrated both within BOMB’s Publishing Department as well as across other departments (e.g. Editorial, Development) as needed
The MCM translates BOMB’s membership and circulation operations and campaigns into clear systems and workflows. The Manager synthesizes data and identifies trends within BOMB’s membership and circulation efforts in order to inform the DAEG on the success or opportunities for growth within BOMB’s fulfillment and programmatic efforts in alignment with larger goals and visions.
The ideal candidate is analytical, an experienced operator, intuitive, and an excellent communicator of tasks and accurately synthesized insights.

Key Responsibilities
Audience Strategy Execution
- Build timelines, workflows, and systems to support audience growth and retention
- Partner with the DAEG on developing BOMB’s membership and circulation strategies
- Translate these strategies into campaigns, workflows, and daily tasks for relevant coordinators
- Identify opportunities for audience engagement and growth through membership program updates, distribution, and external partnerships
Data and Insights
- Oversee and develop BOMB’s customer relationship management software, databases (including Salesforce), and related platforms, ensuring timely, accurate data, segmented in alignment with strategic goals and campaigns
- Oversee relevant Coordinators’s organization of performance reporting data
- Monitor, analyze, and regularly report on performance data (KPIs to be determined in coordination with the DAEG, but broadly include retention, growth, engagement, and revenue) to inform BOMB’s strategic goals
- Translate data into insights that inform strategy in service of BOMB’s mission
Team Management
- Manage and support relevant Coordinator roles, including BOMB’s Circulation Coordinator
- Assign priorities, oversee workloads, and ensure high-quality execution
- Establish clear workflows across membership and circulation functions and maintain organized workflow documentation
- Provide guidance, prioritization, and hands-on support during key moments (issue releases, campaigns, events)
- Foster a collaborative and detail-oriented team culture
Membership Program Oversight and Maintenance
- Oversee (and update as needed) membership tiers, pricing, and benefits
- Design and refine the member journey from onboarding through renewal
- Guide member communications, retention efforts, and engagement strategies
- Ensure a consistent, thoughtful, and smooth (including from the perspective of technological access) member experience across all touchpoints at BOMB
Circulation Oversight
- Working with FULCO, BOMB’s subscription fulfillment house, manage print circulation including subscriptions, newsstand, and institutional distribution
- Oversee subscription fulfillment, print distribution, and vendor relationships
- Ensure timely, accurate delivery of BOMB issues
- Troubleshoot operational issues and maintain reliable distribution systems
Retention and Lifecycle
- Oversee and, with the Circulation Coordinator, execute renewal campaigns, upgrades, BOMB member retention, and re-engagement efforts
- Monitor churn and, in coordination with the DAEG, identify opportunities to build long-term relationships
Budget and Operations
- Develop and manage BOMB membership and circulation budgets and revenue forecasts
- Oversee operational workflows of relevant Coordinators (including BOMB’s Circulation Coordinator), BOMB’s subscription fulfillment house, and relevant contractors (including their invoicing)
- In coordination with the DAEG, identify relevant partner initiatives, including bundle membership deals, and opportunities for the BOMB Store and merchandise development in support of BOMB’s goals
- Monitor return on investments across BOMB membership and circulation efforts
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with BOMB’s marketing team on campaigns, issue launches, and audience growth initiatives
- Collaborate with editorial and programming teams to align audience efforts with content and events
- Support BOMB’s Development Department in fundraising or membership drives as needed
- Execute subscription and membership campaigns in collaboration with marketing
- Support issue launches, promotions, and audience-facing initiatives
- Ensure campaigns are delivered on time and perform effectively
Qualifications
- 3-6+ years of experience in publishing, circulation, and marketing is required
- Experience in publishing, audience development, marketing, circulation, or subscription-based businesses is required
- Knowledge of print fulfillment, distribution networks, and/or membership models
- Experience with CRM systems, including Salesforce and other related circulation databases is required
- Experience with overseeing and executing email campaigns, including targeted campaigns, via Mailchimp
- Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Strong communication skills across internal teams and external partners
- Prior experience managing or mentoring staff
- Strong organizational and operational skills
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and out of the box problem-solving
Preferred Skills
- Experience with digital analytics tools, including Google Analytics

Compensation & Benefits
$65,000-68,000 depending on experience, with benefits
