    The Director of Development (Western Region) is a new, grant-funded role created through a three-year award. The position will strengthen and expand the fundraising capacity of Family Promise Affiliates in the Pacific Northwest, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. The individual in this role will both build and deliver a replicable fundraising support framework—a model that can be used nationally to promote and enhance Affiliate fundraising. Working closely with Family Promise national staff and local leaders, the Director will provide hands-on assistance to Affiliates in their fundraising strategy, donor cultivation, and grant development, while also teaching best practices that foster long-term sustainability. This role will report to the Chief Network Officer.

    The Director of Development's contribution to the organization's success:

    Strategy, Planning, and Capacity Building

    • Serve as the fundraising capacity-building resource for Family Promise Affiliates in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska, providing guidance, tools, and coaching to strengthen local development efforts.
    • Build upon and implement our strategy for Affiliate fundraising support—including annual appeals, donor strategies, events, and grants—that can later be scaled nationally.
    • Directly deliver fundraising materials, templates, and campaigns (such as annual appeals, messaging calendars, or coordinated regional grant proposals) to Affiliates in the region.
    • Identify and coordinate regional and national grant opportunities, supporting Affiliates in pursuing them individually or collectively, in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer of Family Promise national.
    • Support Affiliates in developing strategic donor engagement skills, including how to solicit major gifts, cultivate donors, and communicate fundraising ROI.
    • Partner with Affiliate Executive Directors and Boards to make the case for dedicated fundraising staff, guiding them on the hiring process and expected returns on investment.
    • As part of this project, help ensure that participating Affiliates hire or designate a fundraising staff member within 12 months to sustain local development efforts.
    • Collaborate with field and program staff to align national and regional fundraising support efforts.
    • Provide ongoing training, coaching, and mentoring for Affiliate leaders and development staff.
    • Track and report progress toward fundraising capacity goals established by the grant.

    Collaboration and Communication

    • Work closely with the Affiliate Services team, regional directors, and C-level colleagues to ensure alignment with Family Promise’s strategic priorities.
    • Report regularly on Affiliate progress, successes, and challenges to Family Promise national leadership and to the funder for this project, as required.
    • Stay current on philanthropic trends, emerging donor interests, and funding opportunities relevant to family homelessness and housing stability.

    Performance and Success Metrics

    Your performance in this role will be measured by your ability to strengthen and expand Affiliate fundraising capacity in alignment with the goals of the grant. Success will be evaluated through both quantitative and qualitative outcomes, including:

    • Growth in fundraising capacity and revenue among Family Promise Affiliates in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska.
    • Development and implementation of a fundraising support framework and tools that can be replicated nationally.
    • Increased number of Affiliates hiring or designating fundraising staff within 12 months of engagement.
    • Volume and quality of fundraising deliverables, such as appeals, templates, and coordinated grant proposals.
    • Enhanced Affiliate confidence and competency in fundraising, donor cultivation, and board engagement.
    • Positive feedback and engagement from participating Affiliates and collaboration with national staff.

    The ideal candidate will have the following experience and abilities:

    • Minimum of 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, including success in individual, corporate, foundation, and/or government support.
    • Located in he Pacific Northwest/Western U.S. region.
    • Demonstrated experience training or coaching others in fundraising best practices.
    • Excellent project management and communication skills; proven ability to work collaboratively across teams.
    • Experience writing grant proposals and managing donor relationships.
    • Strong data literacy and familiarity with CRM/donor management systems.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.

    • Salary: $100,000 annually.

    Additional Information

    Term: This is a three-year, grant-funded position with the possibility of extension contingent on funding and program outcomes.

    Location: Remote within the Western U.S. or Pacific Northwest; approximately 30% travel expected.
