    Description

Connexion is a reimagined United Methodist faith community in East Somerville. We are an active

urban storefront church rooted in the neighborhood — welcoming congregation members,

community partners, and neighbors with a wide range of needs through our doors every week. Our

building hosts community meals, partner organizations, space rentals, and drop-in visitors alongside

    our own programming.

We are a small, scrappy, and deeply committed community in a fast-moving

environment. We are seeking a part-time Church Administrator to serve as the operational backbone of

Connexion. This person will be a key point of contact for building users, visitors, and community

partners, and will take primary ownership of day-to-day building management, scheduling, and

communications. The Administrator works closely with the pastor and lay leadership and helps our

small team stay organized and responsive.

15 hours per week, performed on-site. We are open to scheduling across 3–5 days depending on

the candidate's availability. Core hours will include coverage during peak building-use times

(mornings and early afternoons on weekdays). Some flexibility exists around start/end times. Hours

are meant to complement the lead pastor’s and other staff.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Building & Operations

Connexion's building is a genuine community hub — one of East Somerville's most active shared

spaces, hosting congregation worship, partner organization programming, community meals, and

space rentals throughout the week. Managing this building well is one of the most important things

Connexion does, and this role is at the center of that work.

    • Serve as primary point of contact for building users, space rental inquiries, walk in traffic,

    and day-to-day facilities questions.

    • Serve as primary point of contact for building users, space rental inquiries, walk in traffic,

    and day-to-day facilities questions

    • Maintain and manage the building calendar; coordinate scheduling for space rentals,

    community partners, and congregation events

    • Open and/or close the building as scheduled; coordinate with Sexton to ensure the building

is cleaned, organized, and ready for use

    • Coordinate with volunteers and lay leaders on building coverage; help develop and maintain

    a volunteer door-coverage schedule

    • Liaise with vendors and contractors on routine maintenance and facilities needs
    • Liaise with the Trustees to coordinate overall building usage

    Visitor and Community Welcome

Connexion's front door is open to everyone — and "everyone" includes neighbors experiencing

homelessness, recent immigrants, families connected to our community programs, and people who

simply need a safe place to land. The Administrator is often the first and most consistent human

presence people encounter, and that matters enormously.

    • Greet and direct phone and walk-in traffic; handle frequent visitors with diverse and

    sometimes urgent needs

    • Maintain a calm, welcoming, and consistent presence; use discretion and good judgment in

    responding to complex situations

    Communications and Administration

Connexion is a small team doing big work, which means internal communication and organizational

follow-through are what hold everything together. The Administrator keeps information moving —

between the pastor, lay leaders, building users, and the broader community.

    • Manage Connexion's communications calendar and regular outreach (email newsletters,

    social media, and community announcements)

    • Maintain and update scheduling and room-booking systems
    • Communicate regularly with pastor and church committees; support the work of lay

    leadership

    • Assist with volunteer coordination in partnership with volunteer leaders
    • Handle other administrative tasks as needed

    Required Qualifications

    • Ability to work in a fast-moving, community-facing environment with constituents from

    diverse backgrounds

    • Demonstrated discretion, sound judgment, and the ability to respond calmly and

compassionately to a wide range of situations

    • Comfort and experience working alongside people experiencing homelessness
    • Commitment to immigrant justice and experience working in multilingual, multicultural

communities; Spanish or Portuguese language ability strongly preferred, or demonstrated

ability to use technology to communicate across language barriers

    • Administrative experience, preferably in a church, nonprofit, or human services setting
    • Proficiency with email, calendar tools, and basic office technology; ability to learn scheduling software and communications platforms
    • Flexibility, humor, and the ability to hold multiple priorities at once

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with communications platforms (email marketing tools, social media) and

    room-booking or calendar scheduling tools

    • Experience coordinating volunteers

    Physical Requirements

This position requires regular movement throughout the building, including setup and light physical

tasks associated with event and meeting preparation. Candidates should be able to perform active

    • physical work in a busy building environment

    Level of Language Proficiency

fluency in written and spoken English. in addition, Spanish or Portuguese language proficiency strongly preferred
