Description
Join the FIUTS visiting programs team to execute a month-long camp for youth from Kiribati on the University of Washington campus and in the Seattle area. This position is temporary and includes approximately 220 hours of work.
Important: This is an immersive, live-in role. Counselors are required to reside in the UW residence halls for the full duration of the camper program (June 20 – July 18). You will be onsite and available to participants throughout, including evenings and weekends. Although you will have a private room, expect limited personal time during the program.
About You: You are energetic, adaptable, and genuinely enjoy spending time with teenagers in a cross cultural setting. You communicate clearly in English and are patient with English language learners. You stay calm under pressure, handle conflict directly, and keep things fun. Experience with Pacific Island or Micronesian cultures is a plus.
Duties
Keep participants safe, comfortable, and engaged throughout the program, monitoring camper learning and well being;
Facilitate cross-cultural learning and inquiry about language, university life, and American culture;
Lead daily games, discussions, and cultural activities for campers and local youth volunteers;
Support camp logistics, implement and take part in orientation activities, group excursions, special events, and other program elements in collaboration with other staff;
Ensure that participants receive appropriate basic first aid and support for minor medical needs, following program safety procedures and reporting concerns to supervisors as needed;
Support pre-arrival preparations and post-camp clean up.
