    Description

    The Library Foundation of Los Angeles (LFLA) seeks a Digital Skill-Building Curricula Developer (Consultant) to design practical, engaging, and accessible digital literacy curricula for adult learners of various levels offered through the Los Angeles Public Library’s (LAPL) Cybernaut initiative. The curricula will support two program models suited for instruction in public libraries: (1) stand-alone, leveled digital skills workshops, and (2) a structured, multi-session foundational course for adults with low digital literacy.

    The Consultant will develop practical, easy-to-implement materials using a mix of original content and adapted open-source or existing program resources. The project period is between August and October 2026 and will include training for staff implementing the curriculum (Fall 2026).

    SCOPE OF WORK:

    Consultant will deliver the following:

    1/Leveled Workshop Series

    • Develop 8-10 standalone workshop modules (approx. 60 min each)
    • Designed for beginner to intermediate digital skill levels
    • Topics should include foundational digital literacy skills and emerging topics (e.g., AI Literacy, Digital Wellness, Online Privacy, Information and Media Literacy, Digital Communication, Content Creation, Digital Citizenship)
    • Each module should include:
      • Learning objectives
      • Facilitator guide (timed agenda, talking points)
      • Hands-on activities
      • Participant-facing materials (e.g., handouts, slides)
      • Materials list (if applicable)

    2/Foundational Digital Literacy Course (Two-Part Series)

    • Design a two-part course series totaling 8 hours of instruction per series, which can include or build off existing materials
    • Target audience: Adults with low digital literacy and confidence
    • Include:
      • Sequenced lesson plans
      • Scaffolded skill-building approach
      • Practice activities and real-world applications
      • Facilitator guides and participant materials

    3/Training for Cybernaut Digital Navigators

    • Deliver 1-2 facilitator support sessions (live or virtual) for staff digital navigators
    • Topics include:
      • Effective facilitation strategies for adult learners
      • Adapting content for varying skill levels
      • Building learner confidence and engagement
    • Provide accompanying training materials

    4/Curriculum Adaptation & Sustainability Recommendations

    • Deliver a brief written recommendation on:
      • Updating curriculum to reflect emerging technologies and community needs
      • Recommendations for ongoing feedback loops from participants and staff
      • Maintaining and adapting materials over time

    PROJECT TIMELINE (AUGUST – OCTOBER 2026):

    • August: Project kickoff, review of existing materials, outline, and topic selection
    • September: Draft curriculum development (workshops + course series)
    • October: Finalization, revisions, and staff training

    KEY DELIVERABLES:

    • Complete curriculum package (workshops + course series)
    • Facilitator guides and participant material lists
    • Training session/s and materials
    • Written recommendations for ongoing curriculum updates
    • All materials delivered in editable digital formats—preferably Google Docs and Slides

    COMPENSATION & APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

    • Total contract amount $12,000 (including all deliverables)

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must be eligible to work as an independent contractor in the State of California
    • Experience designing curricula for adult learners, particularly in digital literacy, workforce development, or community education settings
    • Familiarity with adult learning principles and learner-centered instructional design
    • Experience working with individuals with low digital literacy or low digital confidence
    • Ability to design engaging, hands-on learning experiences
    • Strong written communication skills and ability to produce clear, user-friendly instructional materials
    • Knowledge of emerging digital topics
    • Experience working in public libraries, community-based orgs, or other public-serving institutions is a plus.
