    Description

    Position Summary

The Development Officer spearheads developing initial relationships with individual donors and works with the Director of Development & Communications to upgrade giving levels and frequency of repeat donors. As a primary steward of CRi’s individual donor base, the Development Officer will collaborate with the entire Development Team to customize and maximize outreach efforts to existing, lapsed, and potential new donors. The Development Officer is a primary contact for discussing planned giving options with donors and facilitating the creation of estate plans, and plays a key role in maintaining general fundraising standard operating procedures (SOPs).

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    Donor Stewardship & Engagement

    • Regularly analyze engagement and giving levels of individual donors and spearhead one-on-one telephone and email donor stewardship efforts to reactivate, maintain, and increase financial contributions. Assist Director with stewarding major donors.
    • Develop prospecting strategies for individual donors. Collaborate with Development Coordinator to produce talk tracks and the Communications Manager to identify and engage individual prospects (and existing donors) on social media.
    • Assist Director with developing messaging for fundraising campaigns. Draft appeal letters, emails, and other content.
    • Manage CRi’s in-kind donation operations, and motivate individual donors—and volunteers—to make monetary donations and become more involved in CRi’s community. Coordinate cadence of direct asks to volunteers with the Volunteer Program Manager.
    • Participate in community outreach events and activities to help attract new supporters to CRi, with a focus on individual donors. Connect foundation and corporate funders to the Grants Writer and the Director.

    Planned Giving

    • Converse with donors about both their short-term and long-term giving options, promoting the benefits of adding CRi to estate plans. Develop relationships with donors’ financial and other professional advisors to set up planned gifts.
    • Manage ongoing relationships with online giving portals to facilitate giving through Donor Advised Funds and making qualified charitable distributions.
    • Develop content to market planned giving options on CRi’s website and to support related email, telephone, and in-person fundraising efforts.

    Reporting and Admin Support

    • Regularly connects with clinical program managers about fundraising needs of CRi’s community homes and other services to support centralized donor stewardship agency-wide. Shares relevant information with other Development Team members for grants writing, event sponsorships, and other fundraising efforts.
    • Audit data entry of donor records, gift reporting and reconciliation processes, and database capabilities to ensure SOPs are being followed consistently and that they and the established infrastructure is working well. Collaborate with Development Coordinator to propose SOP adjustments as needed

    Qualifications

    • 2+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience. An understanding of the health, mental health, and disabilities funding landscape very helpful but not required.
    • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, nonprofit management, or related field.
    • Experience with fundraising databases, such as Donor Perfect, and how they can support other operating systems.
    • Strong oral and written presentation and communications skills. Comfort with making direct asks for financial contributions face-to-face and by both telephone and email, and adjusting tone of asks based on individual circumstances.
    • Familiarity or an interest in estate planning, charitable giving regulations, and tax law updates.
    • The ability to collaborate with the Development Team and throughout the organization on projects and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
