    FINANCE MANAGER for PEOPLE’S EXPRESS

    Whitmore Lake, Michigan

    The Finance Manager oversees the accounting and financial operations of People’s Express and Whitmore Lake Area Human Services, ensuring responsible stewardship of organizational resources. This role supports transportation services through budgeting, accounting, grant compliance, financial reporting, and audit coordination. The Finance Manager works closely with executive leadership, program managers, auditors, and funding agencies. This is primarily an in-office position with occasional remote work permitted.

    Responsibilities

      • Lead the annual budget and forecasting process.
      • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly financial statements and analysis for executive leadership and the Board.
      • Monitor cash flow, funding utilization, and compliance with grant and funding requirements.
      • Support funding diversification while maintaining appropriate liquidity and reserve levels.
      • Supervise accounting staff and oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, and payroll entries.
      • Track restricted and unrestricted funds, including DOT/FTA and other transportation grants, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements.
      • Prepare grant invoices, reimbursement requests, and required financial documentation.
      • Maintain accounting systems, recommend process improvements, and train staff on financial procedures.
      • Coordinate annual financial statement audits and Single Audits, including schedules, supporting documentation, auditor responses, and compliance with Uniform Guidance.

    Qualifications

      • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA, CPA eligibility, or an advanced degree preferred.
      • Five or more years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience, preferably in a nonprofit or government organization, including experience supervising accounting staff.
      • Strong knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting, GAAP, and QuickBooks, with experience in general ledger management, financial reporting, and grant tracking.
      • Experience administering federal, state, and local government grants and contracts, including allowable costs, funding restrictions, and multi-funding reporting.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to leadership and Board members.
    • Working knowledge of transportation funding programs, regulations, and policies preferred.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Salary range for this role is $80,000 - $90,000/year.
