    Description

    The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center is seeking customer-service-minded applicants to join our team. We seek a part-time team member available on weekdays and weekends, interested in engaging with visitors and sharing the Stonewall legacy and LGBTQ+ history. The shifts are scheduled for 3-4 days per week, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday through Sunday, depending on staffing needs.

    The primary responsibility of this position is to greet visitors and share information about Stonewall's history and the uprising that ignited the modern LGBTQ+ equal rights movement. Additional duties may include retail sales, light maintenance, event setup, leading group tours, and other tasks as needed. Flexibility in scheduling is required to accommodate school and other activities, as long as staffing needs are met.

    Qualifications

    Those with a strong interest or connection to LGBGQ+ history and multilingual skills are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of relevant experience, practical skills, and strong commitment to our mission, including the following qualifications:

    • Candidates should have 2-4 years of experience in customer service, operations, or administration, preferably within a museum, cultural organization, or visitor center, and be comfortable spending extended periods on their feet, both standing and walking around the visitor center floor while engaging with guests.
    • Maintain a flexible schedule with standard availability from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, including weekdays and weekends, with the capacity to work extended hours during peak seasons (specifically June and October) and to support special events or holiday periods.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. is required and assists with light cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, and dusting to ensure the visitor center stays clean and meets brand expectations.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential for engaging visitors and delivering outstanding customer service.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills are needed to handle daily tasks and administrative duties.
    • Problem-solving skills are important for addressing visitor concerns and operational issues efficiently.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced setting while maintaining attention to detail is required.
    • Experience with social media is a plus but not mandatory.
    • A passion for LGBTQ+ rights and social justice is desired.
    • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays is necessary.
    • Additional responsibilities as needed to support the operations and on-site programming needs.
