    Description

    The Community Dispute Settlement Center (CDSC) provides mediation services, as well as training in mediation and conflict resolution throughout Middlesex County and beyond. One of the first community mediation centers in Massachusetts, CDSC promotes collaborative, proven ways to understand and resolve conflict through skilled teams of pro bono mediators, training programs in mediation and conflict management, and broad community outreach. We are committed to making our services accessible to underserved populations and to addressing community needs.

    Reporting to the Executive Director, the Mediation Case Coordinator is a full-time position with an hourly rate of at least $26 per hour depending on experience.

    OBJECTIVE

    To oversee the Community Mediation Program, which includes mediations of disputes that are not in the judicial system, including housing, family, workplace, and other matters.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Oversee the Community Mediation Program including intake, scheduling, invoicing, case data entry, and mediation case follow-up. In rare instances, the Case Coordinator will mediate a dispute.
    • Assist the Director of Youth Programs with intake and, upon securing the required experience, assist with Parent Mediation Program intake.
    • Engage in community outreach to establish new partnerships
    • Collaborate with CDSC staff to provide information for reporting to funders and the Board of Directors
    • Train and supervise interns and volunteers
    • Communicate regularly and proactively with colleagues to promote effective team collaboration while working independently
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Willingness to learn how to be a mediator. Experience with the mediation process is preferred.
    • Proven ability to work independently with strong problem solving and time management skills
    • Demonstrated skill with written and oral communication
    • Ability to maintain neutrality when working with parties in distress and to treat sensitive information with discretion
    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously
    • Bachelor’s degree or at least 3 years work experience in an administrative/office role
    • Proficiency with office technology, including Zoom, Excel, MS Word, Google Workspace
    • Familiarity with community resources regarding legal services and family support services is preferred
    • Experience with handling intake interviews and with reporting information is preferred
    • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus

    OTHER

    CDSC staff primarily work from home (although they have the option to work in the office as often as they wish) and have periodic in-person workdays and meetings. Candidates must be able to participate in virtual and in-person meetings throughout the workday. Community outreach activities are primarily in-person and may occur in the evening or on weekends.

    The Mediation Case Coordinator must maintain a remote working space that is reasonably free from distraction and in which confidential conversations can be conducted away from others who might overhear them.
