    Overview of Position

    The Volunteer Recruitment Manager’s primary role is to manage community relationships and oversee the recruitment and onboarding of all Literations volunteers. This role is vital to the success of our Literations programs. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, demonstrate ability to collaborate within a team and interdepartmentally, and demonstrate an ability to understand community landscape. Under the direction of the Director of HR and Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for meeting the organization’s recruitment goals through the execution and management of our volunteer recruitment plan. A focus for this role is working to build a volunteer community that reflects the racial and cultural diversity of the communities we serve. They will work closely with the Program team to maintain our strong support and communication systems for all volunteers. Reporting directly to the Director of HR and Operations, the Recruitment Manager will serve as a member of the HR and Operations team and supervise the Volunteer Coordinator.

    This is a community based position and administrative responsibilities and functions can be completed from a remote work location. Ideal candidates should have a background in recruitment and demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining community relationships and strong presentation and public speaking skills. Experience in managing is preferred.

    All Literations staff are expected for bi-weekly in-person staff meetings at our downtown Boston office and occasional org-wide events throughout the year.

    Responsibilities

    Volunteer Recruitment

    • Develop, in partnership with the Director of HR and Operations, and manage the volunteer recruitment plan, including strategies for reaching recruitment goals for program year; involves collaborating with Program staff in creating strategies and supporting execution within portfolios / regions
    • Serve as a community ambassador for Literations, driving culturally relevant outreach through presentations, volunteer and career fairs, and other public engagements, alongside Program team members
    • Drive identity-conscious outreach to diverse communities in order to increase racial and cultural representation in our volunteer corps
    • Establish, maintain, and grow strategic community partnerships within Greater Boston’s senior / early education networks and beyond to 1) improve volunteer corps demographics to more accurately reflect communities we serve; 2) develop deeper volunteer pipelines; and 3) strengthen our Literations literacy programs and civic engagement of our volunteers
    • Manage relationship with AARP of Massachusetts and outreach / marketing offerings relative to the partnership
    • Collaborate and develop marketing materials for outreach purposes and advertising in digital and print platforms: including but not limited to recruitment focused social media posts

    Volunteer Placement and Support

    • Evaluate, streamline, and improve the volunteer intake, placement, and onboarding process, in partnership with the Operations Manager and the Volunteer Coordinator
    • Oversee and support the Volunteer Coordinator with volunteer intake, onboarding, and placement process and support ongoing volunteer engagement
    • Create, execute, and maintain retention, recognition, and support strategies and encourage volunteer involvement throughout all levels of organization
    • Oversee and support the Volunteer Coordinator with the planning and execution of large-scale recognition and educational / social events
    • Manage all Activation* events, including execution and data collection
      • Activation is our volunteer engagement program, providing opportunities for our corps to socialize outside of service
    • Reviving and serving as staff liaison to the Volunteer Advisory Committee (VAC)
    • Other duties as assigned (can include but not limited to): staff-wide gatherings, supporting fundraising events, etc.

    Volunteer Data Management and Evaluation

    • Support the improvement of administrative systems for the volunteer intake and placement process
    • In collaboration with Program team and Director of Strategy, maintain systems for evaluating volunteer involvement and satisfaction

    Qualifications

    • 4+ years of community engagement and / or volunteer management
    • Management experience and strong supervisory skills
    • Strong public speaking and presentation skills; training experience a plus
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
    • Experienced with technology: such as Google Suite, database/CRM maintenance, and virtual working platforms like Zoom
    • Ability to lead, motivate, inspire a diverse group of staff / volunteers
    • Familiarity with the a full range of Greater Boston communities
    • Comfortable with database CRMs a plus
    • Attention to detail
    • Current and valid driver's license and regular access to a vehicle is essential for this role
    • Bi-/multilingual, a plus

    Level of Language Proficiency

    Literations is an English based program. Programming and program materials are delivered in English and we are looking for candidates who are proficient in written English and reading in English. Candidates who are bi-lingual/multi-lingual, particularly in Spanish, Brazillian Portuguese, and/or Haitian Creole will be prioritized.
