Riverstone has been providing services to older adults in Northern Manhattan since 1985 with a commitment to help older adults to remain active and living safely in their home and community for as long as they choose. Many of the older adults who seek support at Riverstone live below the poverty line and have limited or no proficiency in English. Our bilingual staff are culturally and linguistically experienced in providing highly competent and compassionate service. The organization operates one older adult center, a comprehensive social services division, and a Memory Center - a social adult day program for individuals of any age with memory loss due to Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.
With direction from the Memory Center Director, the Receptionist is a friendly, organized, and customer-service-oriented person who will serve as the first point of contact for visitors, clients, partners, volunteers, and community members for the center. This position plays a critical role in creating a welcoming environment while supporting the daily administrative operations of the organization.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum one year of administrative, receptionist, customer service, or related experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Workspace
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask
Preferred
- Experience working in a nonprofit, community-based organization, healthcare setting, senior center, or social service environment
- Experience interacting with older adults, individuals with disabilities, or underserved populations
- Bilingual (English & Spanish) skills is a requirement
Key Responsibilities:
Front Desk & Visitor Services
- Greet and assist visitors, clients, and community members in a professional and welcoming manner
- Answer, screen, and direct incoming phone calls
- Respond to general inquiries via phone, email, and in person
- Maintain visitor logs and sign-in procedures as required
- Ensure reception and common areas remain organized and welcoming
Administrative Support & Office Operations
- Provide administrative assistance to program and administrative staff
- Schedule appointments, meetings, and conference room usage
- Assist with data entry, filing, scanning, copying, and document preparation
- Maintain physical and electronic records in an organized and confidential manner
- Assist in monitoring and ordering office supplies as needed
- Distribute incoming mail and packages
- Prepare outgoing correspondence and mailings
- Assist with maintaining office equipment and reporting maintenance issues
- Support basic recordkeeping and administrative reporting requirements
Additional Duties
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings
- Maintain confidentiality of client, participant, and organizational information
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support organizational operations

- Comfortable learning new software and administrative systems
- Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the office during the workday
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
- Ability to use standard office equipment including computers, phones, printers, and copiers
