Agency Overview:
Inspiring Minds NYC has provided support services to underserved high school students in Central Brooklyn since 2019. Informed by a focus group of 40 students from Boys and Girls High School, we learned that our youth felt disconnected and yearned to build meaningful connections with their community. We designed our model to make these connections through culturally responsive programs that develop culture identity, leadership skills, health & wellness and artistic expression. Due to the success of our model, we have grown in size and are looking for a Program Director to lead a DYCD funded afterschool program at Brooklyn Collaborative Studies (BCS). We are a fast-growing nonprofit and there is potential to grow with our team!
POSITION/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
The Program Director (PD) is a part-time position that reports to the Director of Community Schools. The PD is responsible for establishing strong relationships with the IM partner school, ensuring the set up and fidelity of program implementation, and establishing strategic relationships in the community. With IM being a fast growing Nonprofit, the PD will be essential for developing systems to support the infrastructure. This position directly supervises the group leaders and activity specialists.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Oversight & Staff Supervision:
- Provide overall supervision of the DYCD Middle School Program, including direct oversight of line staff
- Design and implement innovative, grade-appropriate programming that complements the school-day curriculum, incorporating academic support, enrichment, and recreational activities to enhance student learning
- Provide ongoing supervision, support, and feedback to staff to ensure compliance with IM, Department of Health (DOH), and Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) policies and expectations
- Troubleshoot challenges with school admin at partnership school
- Complete and evaluate mid-year performance reviews for staff; support staff growth through mentoring, coaching, and monthly professional development sessions
- Establish systems for program admin to support facilitators with supplies, equipment or any other needs
- Collaborate with the Community School Director to coordinate schedules, programming logistics, and the effective use of shared spaces
- Work closely with Director of Community Schools to create a professional development plan for all SONYC Staff
School & Community Collaboration:
- Coordinate parent engagement events during evenings and weekends and lead outreach to community partners.
- Plan and implement at least two parent celebration events per year
- Provide families with updates on student development and assist them in accessing academic, emotional, and social resources as needed
Compliance & Administrative Requirements:
- Monitor and manage expenditures, including personnel, supplies, and OTPS, in alignment with the approved budget
- Submit budget plans and purchases
- Oversee submission of data and reports required by DYCD and ensure timely submission
- Ensure safe storage and availability of program supplies and materials
- Collect, review, and verify daily attendance records for accuracy and enter participant attendance into DYCD Connect within required timelines to ensure compliance with DYCD reporting requirements
Strategic Planning & Cross-Agency Collaboration:
- Develop long-range plans for program development, innovation, and sustainability, maintaining adaptability to changing funding and compliance requirements
- Build and maintain partnerships with other agency Directors to exchange ideas and strengthen inter-agency collaboration
- Participate in agency-wide meetings, including Director meetings, staff meetings, CPR/First Aid training, and other required professional development training
Other Duties: Perform additional assignments as required to meet the evolving needs of the organization

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma required. Bachelor's Degree preferred
- At least three (3) years working with youth or adolescents in an urban environment, providing services that reduce barriers and facilitate educational success and social-emotional well-being
- Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal, public speaking, writing, organization, problem-solving, and management skills. Successful candidates can work collaboratively, demonstrate professional presence, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse staff and clientele
- Ability to effectively balance and manage multiple projects with competing priorities
- Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite is required, as is internet use in online data entry reporting systems
Level of Language Proficiency
English proficiency required; Multilingual candidates a plus
