Job Description
The Community Music School (CMS) Early Childhood Coordinator supports the operations and growth of the CMS Early Childhood program, which serves students ages 0 to 6 across a range of classes designed as an entry point to BKCM group and private music learning and making. BKCM’s CMS early childhood music classes start young learners and families on the path towards studying an instrument.
This is a part-time, hourly position that requires strong organizational skills, a warm and professional demeanor, and a genuine interest and background in early childhood music education. The Early Childhood Coordinator reports directly to the CMS Program Director. This role does not include supervisory responsibilities but serves as a key point of coordination and support for Early Childhood faculty, families, and the broader BKCM administrative team and community. Qualified candidates have extensive experience with early childhood music education and an understanding and familiarity with established Early Childhood music pedagogy such as Orff and Kodaly.
The Early Childhood Coordinator is responsible for:
- Program coordination
- Curriculum & faculty support (non supervisory)
- Family communications
- Outreach & program growth
- Coordinating with Operations & Student Services
Program Coordination:
The Early Childhood Coordinator plays a central role in keeping the Early Childhood program organized and running smoothly.
Duties include:
- Schedule and coordinate meetings with Early Childhood faculty to discuss curriculum, repertoire, and best practices.
- Organize and support professional development opportunities for Early Childhood faculty.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with faculty, staff, and the CMS administrative team.
Curriculum & Faculty Support:
The Early Childhood Coordinator supports the ongoing review and development of the Early Childhood curriculum and serves as an on-the-ground resource for faculty.
Duties include:
- Attending Early Childhood classes on a regular basis to observe and support faculty as a thought partner as well as curricular support.
- Feedback to Program leadership about observations.
- Supporting faculty in implementing curriculum goals and maintaining program standards.
Family Communications:
The Early Childhood Coordinator serves as a warm and responsive point of contact for families enrolled in the Early Childhood program, helping to address questions and ensure a positive experience for students and caregivers.
Duties include:
- Communicating with families regarding program details, schedules, and policies.
- Fielding family inquiries and concerns, escalating to the CMS Program Director as needed.
- Supporting family engagement and fostering a welcoming environment for Early Childhood students and caregivers.
- Developing streams of communication with families that communicating the goals of the program.
Outreach & Program Growth:
The Early Childhood Coordinator supports the growth of the Early Childhood program by assisting with outreach and marketing efforts to expand enrollment and raise awareness of BKCM's offerings for young students.
Duties include:
- Collaborating with the CMS Program Director and Marketing team on outreach strategies to grow Early Childhood enrollment.
- Supporting the development and distribution of marketing materials related to the Early Childhood program.
- Building relationships with local schools, daycares, and community organizations to expand awareness of and access to the program.
Operations & Registration Support:
The Early Childhood Coordinator supports the operational needs of the program, including gear management and registration, in coordination with the CMS administrative team.
Duties include:
- Checking in on and managing gear and materials used in Early Childhood classes, ensuring equipment is in good condition and accessible for faculty.
- Supporting Early Childhood registration cycles in coordination with the CMS Program Manager and registration team.
- Assisting with operational tasks as needed to ensure the smooth running of the Early Childhood program.
- Supporting other Early Childhood programming as needed, including workshops, concerts, and events that serve the Early Childhood community.
