Focusing on primary sources, the Institute offers teacher seminars, online courses, exhibitions, digital materials, and print publications that enable students of all ages and backgrounds to study the nation’s past.

    The Institute brings the work of today’s leading historians into classrooms and homes worldwide. Through public events, publications, posters, videos, exhibitions, essays, and a dedicated website rich in primary sources, GLI brings every period of American history to life. Diverse education programs, including the acclaimed Hamilton Education Program, provide opportunities to explore five centuries of American history.     The Position

    Are you a strong writer and hands-on marketer who enjoys turning ideas into compelling campaigns and content? GLI is seeking a Marketing and Communications Manager to support the execution of high-impact marketing initiatives. This position will join GLI as the organization looks to expand its reach, strengthen engagement with core audiences, and identify new opportunities for growth.

    Reporting to the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications, this position will focus on driving awareness and participation in high-priority initiatives. They will play a central role in executing campaigns, developing content, and supporting program growth through clear, compelling storytelling and coordinated outreach. The position will also help ensure the smooth operation of the marketing team through project coordination, logistics, and organization. The Marketing and Communications Manager will be responsible for managing timelines, maintaining marketing materials and assets, and supporting effective campaign delivery.

    This is an execution-focused position for someone who thrives in a fast-paced and collaborative environment and enjoys bringing strategy to life through strong writing, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through.

    This position will be based in New York City, with a hybrid schedule requiring at least three days per week in GLI’s midtown office. Occasional travel for conferences and events will also be required.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    Program Marketing and Campaign Execution (45%)

    • Lead the execution of marketing campaigns for priority initiatives, including GLI’s The Citizenship Test: Civics and American History program and new/emerging program areas
    • Translate program goals into clear, actionable marketing plans and timelines
    • Coordinate campaign elements across channels (such as email and social media), ensuring alignment in messaging, timing, and audience targeting
    • Support program launches and growth through targeted outreach and promotional strategies
    • Collaborate with program teams to understand priorities and ensure marketing is aligned and integrated

    Content Development and Writing (25%)

    • Write, edit, and refine marketing content across channels through clear, engaging messaging that drives action and participation (marketing channels can include email, web, social media, and promotional materials)
    • Adapt and repurpose content for different audiences and platforms while maintaining a consistent voice and tone
    • Develop marketing materials, including collateral, messaging, and outreach campaigns

    Coordination and Operational Support (20%)

    • Support the day-to-day operations of the Marketing and Communications team, helping to establish clear processes/workflows and ensure that campaigns and initiatives move forward efficiently and on schedule
    • Coordinate project timelines, deliverables, and approvals across teams, keeping stakeholders aligned and informed
    • Organize and maintain print and digital marketing assets and materials, ensuring they are up to date and accessible
    • Manage program and event logistics, including timely and accurate shipping of materials for conferences, events, and other program needs

    Conference Marketing, Attendance, and Follow-Up (10%)

    • Under the direction of the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager, support the planning and execution of GLI’s presence at approximately 5–10 conferences annually
    • Attend conferences as a representative of GLI and engage with educators, partners, and participants
    • Gather insights and contacts at conferences and manage follow-up, including targeted email campaigns and collaboration with program teams on outreach

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Commitment to GLI’s mission
    • Demonstrated experience in marketing, communications, audience development, or growth-focused roles, preferably within educational, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations
    • Experience executing and optimizing successful marketing campaigns across multiple channels, including email, social media, and events
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to craft compelling messages and stories that prompt action
    • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple initiatives, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously
    • Exceptional ability to collaborate and communicate positively with colleagues
    • Flexible, solutions-oriented approach to working with others and building a strong team culture
