    Description

    Position Summary

    The Director of Learning and Impact leads and coordinates data collection and analysis, learning and assessment, and data translation and interpretation of the foundation’s grantmaking and strategic initiatives, working collaboratively within the Community Impact department, with foundation leadership, and in cross-departmental teams and committees. The Director of Learning and Impact works closely with the Vice President of Community Impact to advance the goals of the foundation’s strategic initiatives. This position has supervisory responsibilities.

    Essential duties and responsibilities:

    1. In consultation with leadership, develop an approach to learning and evaluation of the foundation’s strategic initiatives
    2. Provide cross-departmental project management of the strategic initiatives by creating agendas, facilitating cross-departmental meetings, ensuring information flows efficiently, and documenting progress
    3. Establish and lead a cross-departmental team focused on learning, including defining and tracking impact measures, developing reports to share data both internally and externally, and creating systems and dashboards for managing information
    4. Develop regular assessments of grant programs and grantmaking more broadly by topic and population
    5. Provide data, research, and analysis to teams throughout the foundation upon request.
    6. Partner with the Communications department and staff across departments to share learnings publicly and communicate the impact of the foundation’s grantmaking and initiatives
    7. Oversee the strategic use of Salesforce to support the business operations of the CI team
    8. Work with external consultants to ensure projects are designed, implemented, and utilized in ways that advance the foundation’s goals and promote equity. Serve as point of contact for information and data.
    9. Perform the duties of a department manager, including interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, supervising, evaluating, recognizing and disciplining direct reports, setting employee goals and objectives, resolving employee issues, and ensuring compliance with the Employee Handbook and related personnel policies

    Qualifications needed for position:

    The following are required for the position:

    1. Five or more years of experience with learning and evaluation work within high impact, data-driven social sector or philanthropic organizations.
    2. Training in and experience with qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Comfortable summarizing data, drawing useful and nuanced findings, and asking critical questions to refine conclusions.
    3. Experience with designing and conducting semi-structured interviews and focus groups.
    4. Familiarity with the Equitable Evaluation Initiative, Trust-Based Philanthropy, and Emergent Learning.
    5. Project management skills and experience, including creating goals and processes and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
    6. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, donors, partners, board members, managers, and the general public.
    7. Strong meeting facilitation skills.
    8. Demonstrated ability and experience in building relationships across different social groups.
    9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to both lead and participate.
    10. Willingness and ability to travel statewide.
    11. Willingness and ability to attend meetings and events outside regular work hours as needed.
    12. Skills or experience working in a professional office setting, such as answering phones, scheduling meetings, maintaining a shared calendar, using email, and navigating a database. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., Outlook, Excel, and Word, and PowerPoint specifically), web-based applications and databases required.

    Schedule and Location

    • This is a full-time, hybrid position, based out of our Portland or Ellsworth office
    • Candidates must live in Maine or establish Maine residency within three months of hire
