Organization Summary
Equal Justice Under Law is an innovative and progressive non-profit organization in Washington, D.C., seeking systemic change through litigation across the country. Our mission is to end wealth-based inequality in the criminal justice system; we combine impact litigation with outreach and communications in pursuit of this goal. Position Summary
This position will be primarily focused on initiating new litigation, including conducting investigations, building relationships with community partners, and building relationships with clients. We expect work of the highest quality, and we value passion, creativity, intellectual rigor, and close collaboration on all aspects of our cases.
A successful applicant will have significant experience in building relationships, including with clients and partners. Because this position will be focused on initiating new litigation, candidates should have a self-starter attitude and bring an entrepreneurial approach to legal advocacy. Attorneys should also expect occasional travel.
Work is done primarily at our in-person office in downtown Washington.

- Civil litigation experience, including experience filing civil lawsuits;
- Experience working with clients, including initiating attorney-client relationships;
- Ability to network and connect with potential partners and clients;
- Progressive legal philosophy and an insistence on social justice;
- Strong work ethic, independent, self-starter;
- Expertise about the criminal justice system;
- Demonstrated organization and time-management skills;
- Outcome-oriented; creative problem-solving;
- Maturity and the ability to work well in a team environment;
- Effective communication skills, open-minded, non-defensive;
- Demonstrated commitment, passion, and enthusiasm for Equal Justice Under Law’s mission.
