    Description

    Overview

    The Facility and Operations Director oversees the synagogue's daily operations, facilities, maintenance, and logistical support to ensure a safe, welcoming and efficient environment for congregants, staff and guests. This position manages contractors, vendors, coordinating with staff and lay leadership to support synagoigue events and lifecycle needs.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Administrative and Facility Management

    • Order and maintain office supplies, ritual items, and equipment.
    • Oversee building systems including fire alarms, phone, internet, cameras, and security.
    • Supervise maintenance personnel schedules, waste removal, and contractor coordination.
    • Administrative supervision of accountant.
    • Manage facility rentals, licenses, and coordinate facility preparation for events and holidays.
    • Maintain defibrillator, safety equipment and first aid cabinets.

    High Holy Days and Holiday Duties

    • Manage logistical setup for High Holy Days; seating, security, parking, ushers and building readiness.
    • Coordinate with police, security and maintenance teams.
    • Order supplies (yarmulkes, Israel Bonds materials, envelopes etc.)
    • Oversee sukkah construction.
    • Oversee cleaning and preparation for Passover.

    Shabbat and Weekly Support

    • Ensure ritual and event materials (wine, displays, etc.) are ready for services.
    • Maintain synagogue cleanliness and readiness.

    General

    • Supervise building maintenance/repair, safety, emergency preparedness and compliance.
    • Support cemetery plot management and Yahrzeit plaque maintenance.
    • Coordinate with other departments for lifecycle and communty events.
    • Contract and grant management.

    Qualifications

    • Proficiency with computers.
    • Facilities management and contract management experience, project management capable.
    • Familiarity with security systems, procedures and best practices.

    Hours, Compensation, and Benefits

    • Hours: 32-40 Hours/wk
    • Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 depending on experience
    • Benefits: US and Jewish hollidays off; generous leave; After 12 months: Health and 403 (b)

    Level of Language Proficiency

    English profeciency required, some knowlage of Hebrew will be a plus.
