    Description

    The Communications Coordinator is responsible for executing HAC’s core communications across digital platforms with accuracy, consistency, and strategic alignment. This role supports policy advocacy, member engagement, fundraising, and organizational visibility by ensuring HAC’s work is communicated clearly and reliably to members, partners, and the public. This position requires strong writing skills, disciplined project management, and the ability to collaborate across teams. The Communications Coordinator must be detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced advocacy environment.

    The Housing Action Coalition (HAC) is a nonprofit that advocates for building more housing at all levels of affordability to help alleviate the Bay Area’s and California’s housing shortage, displacement, and affordability crisis.

    Description

    Key Responsibilities

    Content & Digital Communications

    • Draft, edit, and publish HAC’s regular communications, including newsletters, member emails, website content, and digital updates.
    • Maintain HAC’s website and digital content to ensure information is current, accurate, and aligned with organizational priorities.
    • Ensure consistent voice, tone, and branding across all communications.

    Social Media & Online Presence

    • Manage HAC’s social media presence, with a primary focus on LinkedIn and other priority platforms.
    • Coordinate content that highlights policy work, member activity, events, and organizational milestones.
    • Track basic engagement metrics to inform content planning.

    Major Communications Projects

    • Support the development and distribution of major communications assets such as impact reports, membership materials, and campaign-related publications.
    • Coordinate timelines, content collection, and production with staff and external vendors as needed.

    Cross-Team Collaboration

    • Work closely with policy, organizing, and membership staff to ensure their work is accurately represented in communications.
    • Support communications needs for events, campaigns, and advocacy efforts.
    • Participate in planning conversations to align communications with organizational goals.

    Systems & Workflow Management

    • Maintain organized systems for tracking communications projects, deadlines, and approvals.
    • Follow established workflows for drafting, review, and publication of materials.
    • Communicate clearly about progress, timelines, and emerging challenges.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • 2-5 years of office work or relevant experience
    • Experience managing digital content, email communications, and social media.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
    • Strong organizational skills and follow-through.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
    • Comfort working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

    Preferred

    • Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, or political communications.
    • Familiarity with email platforms, content management systems, and basic analytics.
    • Interest in housing, public policy, or social impact work.
