    About The Care Center:

    The Care Center is a comprehensive and transformative educational program located in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Our mission is to provide opportunities for young mothers and all women facing systemic barriers to resume their education and acquire the education, resources, and skills for lifelong growth, wellness, and economic stability. We offer three integrated programs. Our award-winning high school equivalency program for parents under 24 pairs small-setting HiSET (GED) preparation classes with athletics, art, and poetry. Our highly supportive part-time college courses and fulltime onsite Bard Microcollege Holyoke associates degree program provide opportunities for women of all ages to begin or resume their studies. Support services to aid success include onsite daycare, nurse services, door-to-door transportation, breakfast and lunch, an individual counselor for each student, and housing resources.

    Position Summary

    The Care Center is seeking a full-time educator to join our team working with young mothers ages 14–24 in our high school equivalency preparation program. This educator will support students in developing the academic skills and confidence needed to pursue their educational goals, with a particular focus on strengthening core reading and writing skills. This educator will also support English-language learners enrolled in our program.

    The ideal candidate will have experience supporting adolescent and adult learners, particularly those who are in need of building foundational literacy skills and those who are learning English. They will bring a deep belief in the capacity of young people to grow and succeed. They will be committed to a strengths-based approach to learning and skilled at creating a supportive, engaging classroom environment that honors students’ experiences while helping them build the tools they need for academic progress and long-term success.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide group and individual instruction to students in the high school equivalency program, with particular attention to strengthening their reading, writing, and foundational literacy skills.
    • Provide group and individual instruction to English-language learners.
    • Assess students’ academic levels and learning needs through informal reading and writing assessments, observation, and review of student work.
    • Design and facilitate engaging lessons, practice activities, and individualized learning supports that build core academic skills while fostering confidence and persistence.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet students where they are, adapting strategies and materials based on student progress, learning styles, and ongoing assessment.
    • Create a supportive learning environment that encourages participation, persistence, and a sense of belonging, grounded in a strengths-based approach to teaching and learning.
    • Maintain clear documentation of student progress, learning goals, and areas of growth.
    • Collaborate closely with members of the academic team to align instruction with curriculum goals and to ensure coordinated support for students.
    • Communicate regularly with the academic team about student strengths, challenges, and progress, contributing to a shared understanding of how best to support each student’s learning.
    • Participate in field trips and special programming, including accompanying students to sports activities.

    Qualifications

    • Commitment to The Care Center’s mission and values and to supporting the communities The Care Center serves.
    • Minimum of three years’ experience teaching adolescent and/or adult learners, including experience providing instruction in reading, writing, and foundational literacy skills.
    • ESOL teaching experience required.
    • Experience using evidence-based reading and writing instruction, such as phonics for adolescent or older learners, fluency development, comprehension strategies, and structured writing supports.
    • Ability to assess student skill levels, differentiate instruction, and adapt teaching strategies based on student progress and learning needs.
    • Ability to work closely with classroom teachers, counselors, and student support staff to align instruction and contribute to coordinated academic plans.
    • Valid license and clean driving record required.
    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

    Hours, Location and Compensation

    This is a full-time position Monday-Friday from 8:30-3:30. The salary range for this position is between $65,000 – $70,000 depending on level of education and experience. Benefits include 20 vacation days; 12 sick days; office closures the first week of July and between Christmas and New Years; 12 paid holidays; 70% of health insurance; 100% of life and disability insurance; and an employer 401(k) direct contribution and match.
