Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Operations is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, functionality, and appearance of the Museum, ensuring that the building’s physical environment and operational functions provide a safe and welcoming experience. The role oversees cleaning, space scheduling, supply management, compliance, audio-visual systems, and vendor relationships. Working collaboratively across departments, the Senior Manager of Operations supports the physical and logistical preparations of events, programs, rentals, and administration. This position works closely with Security and Engineering teams and manages one direct report as well as contracted maintenance teams.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the Museum’s daily maintenance and its operational systems, including supplies, cleaning, mail service, and carting.
- Coordinate contractors, vendors, and service providers to maintain building needs and operational systems.
- Schedule and facilitate the maintenance teams, garbage removal, and related services to ensure Museum spaces consistently meet cleanliness and presentation standards.
- Oversee the upkeep and inventory of audio-visual, lighting, sound, and theatrical systems; coordinate technical support for Museum programs, performances, rentals, and special events.
- Recommend and implement operational improvements, equipment upgrades, and capital replacement projects.
- Manage operational support for exhibitions, public programs, performances, special events, and facility rentals, including staffing, logistics, deliveries, room setups, breakdowns, equipment deployment, and post-event restoration.
- Maintain the Museum Building Calendar and lead cross-departmental planning and communication to coordinate event requirements and space utilization.
- Manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, café tenants, and building support partners.
- Supervise and schedule Operations staff and contracted support teams.
- Oversee inventory, storage, maintenance, tracking, and replacement planning for operational and event-related equipment.
- Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures related to facility operations, building use, and operational efficiency.
- In tandem with the Museum’s engineers and security team, manage preventive maintenance schedules, repairs, service requests, inspections, and operational records.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations
- Perform other duties as required to support Museum operations and institutional goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in operations management, museum administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible operations or facilities management experience in a museum, cultural institution, performance venue, public facility, or similar organization.
- Demonstrated supervisory and team leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, facilities operations, maintenance practices, and vendor management.
- Experience supporting events, public programs, or performance spaces.
- Working knowledge of audio-visual, theatrical, lighting, and sound systems.
- Strong organizational, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Position Details:
- Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
- Status: Full-Time, 40 hours a week including some evening and weekend hours
- Location: Onsite
- Salary: $70,000-$85,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage, paid time off, and retirement benefits
