About Rising Communities
Rising Communities (RC), formerly Community Health Councils (CHC), is a non-profit, community-based, health education, advocacy and policy organization established in 1992 in response to the growing health and healthcare crisis. RC’s mission is to co-develop transformational social equity models and systems in service to BIPOC communities, to help each person thrive. RC has been at the forefront of systems change work to eliminate disparities in health and well-being. Our policy areas include Health Systems, Food Justice, and Community and Economic Resiliency. Each area represents a unique opportunity to engage members of impacted communities in program and policy development through a wide variety of community interventions and strategies as well as representation and leadership through the coalitions and collaborations convened. With a primary focus on South Los Angeles, RC works at the local, state, and national level to improve the health of under-served and marginalized communities.
Project Summary
RC seeks an Independent Contractor Grant Writer to strategize and develop all aspects of program planning, implementation, and evaluation for proposals, as well as coordinate and write grant proposals for government, corporate and foundation funds. The Independent Contractor Grant Writer will also perform prospect research on grant opportunities that match the goals and objectives of the company, including sending prospective grants to RC, and understanding our programs and strategic grant goals by gathering information from various departments and working with the team to ensure alignment and coordination. Lastly, the Grant Writer is responsible for leading efforts to compile and organize RC’s Grants Development SharePoint inclusive of pertinent historical submissions and data relevant for re-purpose.
The Contractor will be responsible for completing the contracted deliverables and managing day-to-day workflows independently. RC will provide project goals, required compliance guidelines, and deadlines but will not control the manner or means by which work is executed.
Scope of Work and Deliverables

- Ownership of project (s): Serve as a point-of-contact and/or liaison with designated contractors and consultants to support grant processes and activities;
- Communication: Determine and communicate contractor and consultant project priorities, timelines, deadlines, and expectations; facilitates effective communications between contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure grants and grant proposals meet RC’s strategic objectives.
Contractor Independence

- Determines their own schedule, workload management, and methods for performing services.
