    Description

    Use your knowledge of the humanities higher education landscape and of the latest marketing technology to increase awareness about the MLA and engage our constituents. The marketing strategist, under the direction of the director of outreach, will promote MLA membership, services, resources, publications, and programming and track association campaigns and resource usage to expand the MLA’s reach. You’ll support our institutional offerings, including the Strategic Partnership Network, MLA Academic Programs Services, and the MLA Job List, and execute email and ad campaigns from inception to post-campaign analysis.

    Responsibilities

    • Create marketing assets, including emails, flyers, social media posts, and other materials
    • Build emails in the MLA’s email design platform
    • Use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Data Studio and strong data analysis skills to track conversion rate, revenue, and other key performance indicators and produce reporting and recommendations
    • Promote MLA Strategic Partnership Network engagement and benefit use and liaise with partners
    • Support MLA conference exhibiting and sponsorship, including planning and budget tracking
    • Support sales of institutional products through outreach and strategic data analysis
    • Identify opportunities for sales and conduct prospect analysis research
    • Stay up to date on trends in higher education and association management

    Qualifications

    • At least two years' experience in communications or marketing in a higher education, humanities nonprofit, or association setting
    • At least one year of experience building institutional relationships, cultivating sales, and conducting prospect research
    • Exceptional copywriting and communication skills
    • Excellent organizational skills, including experience with Google Sheets or Excel
    • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects
    • At least one year of experience working with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
    • At least one year of experience with email marketing platforms and CRMs
    • Experience creating and editing pages in content management systems a plus
    • Understanding of best practices for email marketing, SEO, and AI search optimization
    • BA in a humanities field

    This is a hybrid position, requiring regular in-person attendance at the MLA offices in downtown New York City. Candidates must be able to work legally in the United States. Salary is commensurate with experience and expected to be in the range of $66,500–$72,000. The MLA provides generous vacation and sick time, flexible work hours, a 403(b) retirement plan, and individual health and dental plans with no shared premium cost.
