    Position Description

    Location: Remote-friendly; Florida residency preferred

    Travel: Regular in-person presence required for key organizational events and meetings, including approximately two months in Tallahassee during the Florida Legislative Session, plus periodic travel throughout Florida during the remainder of the year (approximately 20%)

    Employment Status: Full-time, exempt

    Compensation: $85-100K, commensurate with experience

    The League of Women Voters of Florida (the League) is a nonpartisan political organization. We envision and work for a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge and the confidence to participate. The League is a statewide multi-issue organization with a network of 29 Local Leagues across Florida and does not support or oppose political parties or candidates.

    Position Overview:

    The Executive Director works in service to the League’s mission and in partnership with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the strategic vision and goals of the League. The Executive Director is accountable for accomplishing organizational goals and objectives and has management and oversight responsibilities in the areas of:

    • Administration,
    • Board and Local League Support,
    • Finance,
    • Fundraising,
    • Human Resources,
    • Membership Outreach,
    • Organizational Development, and
    • Volunteer Activities.

    Serving alongside the Board and membership, the Executive Director is a forward-facing voice for the League and must be able to clearly and confidently articulate its mission, goals and positions to internal and external audiences, including members, partners, the public and media.

    Reporting Relationships:

    The Executive Director reports to the Board and provides leadership and management to a staff of three, seasonal interns and a team of volunteers.

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as LWVFL’s chief staff member, responsible for advancing the mission and strategic goals of the League within the state of Florida
    • Manage all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the League, including staff and vendor management, internal and external communications, finance, and Board governance
    • Serve as a visible, credible and authoritative spokesperson for LWVFL, clearly articulating the League’s mission, goals and positions to members, the public, media, policymakers, coalition partners and other stakeholders
    • Oversee the planning and execution of statewide educational programs, public forums, convenings and events
    • Work with the Board, state action chairs and lobbying firm to carry out legislative priorities
    • Actively participate in the League community, including supporting and engaging leaders and volunteers across Florida’s 29 Local Leagues
    • Drive and implement a full range of fundraising initiatives that assure diverse sources of contributed income
    • Actively identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations, and maintain a portfolio of prospects and donors
    • Oversee the organization’s annual budget and financial management, working with external bookkeeping, accounting and audit professionals as appropriate, and maintain systems, policies and procedures that support accurate budgeting, transparent fiscal oversight, legal compliance and sound financial practices
    • Manage grants administration
    • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including nonprofit, business, government and civic organizations
    • Manage and mentor staff and volunteers, both directly and indirectly
    • Manage systems, policies and procedures that ensure cost-effective management, accurate budgeting, transparent fiscal oversight, legal compliance, and financial accounting practices
    • Nurture relationships with all volunteers
    • Other duties as required

    Qualifications

    • Five-plus years of increasingly challenging nonprofit management experience preferred
    • Experience in voting rights, elections and Florida state government strongly recommended
    • Demonstrated success in management and supervision of employees including hiring, training and performance evaluation
    • Demonstrated commitment to the League’s values, including our policy of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
    • Exceptional communication skills, including writing, public speaking, meeting facilitation and consensus building
    • Proficiency with Google Workspace and other digital tools used for organizational operations, communications and collaboration
    • Resourceful, imaginative, positive attitude, mission-driven and self-directed
    • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to provide thoughtful organizational leadership
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build trust and rapport with a range of stakeholders including Board members, funders and donors, volunteers and staff
    • Superior organizational, analytical and strategic thinking skills
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities and ability to work effectively as part of a team
    • Impeccable integrity, judgment and discretion
    • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in outreach to volunteers and other fundraising partners
    • Passion for and commitment to the mission of the League of Women Voters
