Role Description
The Executive Director leads the organization, overseeing strategy, operations, and external communications. They report to the Board and are responsible for managing operations, finances, fundraising, and ensuring communications and activities align with the mission and goals of Baltimore City Public Schools’ Great Kids Farm. This role seeks a leader who can build relationships internally with City Schools’ staff and externally with funders and supporters, and engage and motivate staff, and volunteer board members.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Governance: Collaborate with the Board on strategic planning and policy development.
- Fundraising & Development: Create and implement fundraising plans, manage donor relations, pursue grant funding, and seek major gifts.
- Financial Management: Oversee financial planning, budgeting with our City Schools’ partners, and ensure compliance with funders.
- Organizational Management & Operations: Manage daily operations, administration, and technology.
- Team Leadership & Staff Development: Recruit, manage, and develop staff and board volunteers while fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Communications & Public Relations: Act as the main spokesperson and manage external communications.
- Program Oversight: Ensure funding aligns with F2S programming goals and requirements.
Qualifications
- Experience: Requires several years of senior nonprofit management or equivalent experience in leadership, fundraising, and financial management. Experience working with a nonprofit Board is essential.
- Education: A Bachelor's degree is required.
- Skills and attributes:
- High emotional intelligence (including solid empathy, openness, and adaptability) is critical to this position.
- Strong communication (both written and verbal) and organizational abilities.
- Problem-solving, and innovation skills are necessary.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; a strong passion for education and equitable access for all students; and familiarity with Baltimore City Public Schools.
- Proficiency in financial management is needed.
- A background in grant writing and/or major gifts is important.
