    About the Organization

    The Garden Conservancy is a national non-profit organization dedicated to saving and sharing outstanding American gardens for the education and inspiration of the public. Since our founding, we have championed the preservation of exceptional gardens and fostered a community of garden enthusiasts through our signature programs, including the Open Days garden-visitation program.

    The Opportunity

    We are seeking a motivated, self-starting freelance Advertising Salesperson. This individual will be responsible for selling print advertisement space in our two premier publications:

    1. The Garden Conservancy Open Days Directory: Our flagship annual guide that connects thousands of garden lovers with private gardens across the country.
    2. The Catalog: A high-quality biannual publication showcasing the Conservancy’s seasonal programming, educational workshops, and preservation efforts.

    This is a 100% commission-only consultant position, offering high flexibility and the opportunity to represent a prestigious national brand in the horticultural and preservation space. This is a perfect opportunity for somebody who is experienced and active in selling advertising space in the home and garden segment, and is looking to augment their income.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead Generation: Identify and recruit potential advertisers, including boutique nurseries, landscape architecture firms, luxury home brands, travel agencies, and relevant non-profit partners.
    • Relationship Management: Manage the full sales cycle, from initial cold calling/outreach to closing and securing contracts.
    • Account Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for advertisers, ensuring they provide creative assets on time and meet print specifications.
    • Strategy: Work closely with the communications team to identify new market opportunities and meet seasonal sales targets.

    Qualifications

    • Proven experience in print advertising sales or media sales.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and "people" skills.
    • Highly organized approach with the ability to manage deadlines for multiple publications.
    • A professional demeanor suitable for representing a high-profile national non-profit.
    • An interest in horticulture, landscape design, or historic preservation is a significant plus but not required.

    Compensation

    • This is a part-time, freelance consultant position.
    • Commission-only: A competitive percentage of all gross sales secured.
