Description
The Media Associate will provide support for various aspects of the Communications Department and its department director’s work, including the weekly e-newsletter, press lists, and day-to-day administrative support, as outlined below.
Location: Remote eligible (within the U.S.) with occasional travel and periodic onsite visits to headquarters in New York City
Responsibilities:
- Write compelling, engaging copy for emails, blog posts, and potential supporters to further internal and external organizing and strategic campaigns, including the Center for Constitutional Rights’ weekly e-newsletter, Frontlines of Justice
- Collect or create visuals for Frontlines of Justice
- Collect and publish the Center for Constitutional Rights’ press clips on a weekly basis
- Assist with updating and maintaining press lists
- Coordinate collection of the Communications Department’s biweekly updates for all-staff report
- Assist with organizing and maintaining the media library
- Assist communications staff at virtual and in-person press conferences
- Tech support (running, zoom, checking audio levels during press conferences and other events hosted by the communications department)
- Support Digital Engagement Manager to develop, write, edit, and publish social media content across platforms including Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn, and others.
- Provide coverage for social media during Digital Engagement Manager’s absence
- Work with the Communications team to develop messaging frameworks
- Assist with communications requests from various departments
- Share responsibility with others in the Communications Department for maintenance of the website and approval of web content submitted by other departments
- Participate in departmental and organizational planning and projects and organization-wide committees, and carry out work assigned
- Other related work as assigned by the Communications Director
Qualifications
- Minimum of (2) years of experience creating, editing, testing, and scheduling emails with a CRM (ex. Mailchimp, EveryAction, Civi, SendGrid, etc.)
- Basic graphic design skills to create email, web, textables, memes, and/or flyers using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite programs, or similar platforms
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
- Awareness of social media tools and current best practices across major platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team and a strong ability to work cross-functionally
- Basic knowledge of HTML, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar programs
- Understanding of basic email and social media analytics and ability to leverage online tools efficaciously
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills, including proven ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and priorities under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment
- Strong digital skills, with proficiency in MS Office, Adobe, and Google applications
- Multi-cultural competence and comfort – ability to work with a diverse team and to work across differences at all levels
- Comfort working in a progressive legal and advocacy environment
- A belief in the mission of the Center for Constitutional Rights
Preferred skills or qualifications
- EveryAction experience
- Knowledge and experience conducting A/B split testing
- Narrative strategy
- Experience creating press lists with media databases such as MuckRack, Cision, or Meltwater
- Experience with content creation tools and/or social media scheduling programs (ex. Buffer, Action Sprout, Hootsuite Lately, etc.)
