    Description

    Michigan Historic Preservation Network's mission is to support "the sustainability and economic viability of Michigan’s historic places through advocacy, education, and direct action.” Established in 1981, MHPN has over 45 years of experience assisting Michigan communities with preserving their architectural, cultural, and archeological heritage.

    We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented individual who can build and sustain financial records and operations to grow and streamline MHPN. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner with experience in developing and maintaining financial and record-keeping systems. The Finance and Operations Associate primarily works to assist the executive director in running the organization. The Associate also works closely with the Project Manager and the Board of Directors to support the administrative functions of the MHPN. This is a full-time position which can be primarily remote with weekly or bi-weekly visits to the Lansing office.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Oversee cash flow operations for all MHPN related entities and provide executive director with weekly reports
    • Create and maintain program, committee, management and board financial reports including budget to actual and balance sheet
    • Manage annual insurance policy renewals
    • Contract management for all organizational vendors, leases and regranting – including annual 1099 filings
    • Manage day to day financial operations, recording accurately in QuickBooks
    • Assist Executive Director in grant compliance and reporting
    • Assist Executive Director with annual membership renewal and new member recruitment campaigns
    • Manage accounts payable processes and vendor payments
    • Check mail, email, and phone messages
    • Process bank deposits
    • Work with outside accounting firm on annual audits/reviews and IRS Form 990 annual filings
    • Maintain organizational files and records
    • Interact with board members including scheduling board meetings, board retreats, and logistics
    • Maintain the physical office space including supplies, equipment, and furnishings
    • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements

    • Minimum of two years professional experience in an operations, cash flow, or compliance focused role
    • Familiarity with QuickBooks and standard accounting practices
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook
    • Experience with 501(c)(3) organizations a plus
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Experience working and thriving in this type of role in a remote environment

    The starting salary for this position is $50,000. Benefits include paid holidays, paid vacation and personal days. A stipend to purchase health insurance on the ACA Marketplace (calculated to the cost of an average Silver plan) will be provided.
