    Who We Are

ACC is one of the nation’s largest open-admission animal shelters, whose mission is to End Animal Homelessness in NYC. We touch the lives of nearly 20,000 animals each year. ACC is more than an animal shelter; we are a resource to the community, always seeking ways to keep the human-animal bond intact. With a 90% placement rate, our progressive, life-saving initiatives contribute to the successful placement of our animals.

We strive to find loving homes for homeless and abandoned cats, dogs, guinea pigs and rabbits, both by adopting animals directly to the public and by partnering with more than 200 dedicated animal placement organizations (our New Hope partners). We also help keep NYC communities safe and rescue animals in need, responding to emergencies that involve animals as well as keeping our doors open 24/7 for people and animals in need.

    Summary

The Manager, Institutional Philanthropy works closely with the Associate Director of Philanthropy and broader Philanthropy team to support ACC’s institutional fundraising efforts, including foundation, corporate, and government giving. This role manages grant activity, including proposal development, reporting, deadline tracking, and funder stewardship, while supporting broader institutional fundraising and engagement efforts in support of ACC’s mission to end animal homelessness in New York City.

The Manager, Institutional Philanthropy works collaboratively across the organization to support institutional fundraising activities, coordinate funder engagement opportunities, and help maintain accurate grant records, reporting, and compliance requirements.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, institutional giving, or grant management required.
    • Experience managing foundation, corporate, and/or government grants, including proposal writing, reporting, and deadline tracking.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing grant proposals, donor correspondence, reports, and fundraising materials.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and fundraising activities simultaneously.
    • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and build strong working relationships with staff, funders, and external partners.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

    Benefits

ACC values work/life balance and offers a generous paid-time-off (PTO) package that includes vacation time, birthdays off, personal days and sick pay. We also value physical and mental health by offering a great open access Cigna medical, dental and vision insurance at a low premium to our employees as well as 401K and Pension, Life Insurance. We also have on-the-job training for 2-4 weeks, periodic all staff trainings to include safety, DEI, cross training, and other growth opportunities.

Because ACC is a nonprofit, employees may be eligible for loan forgiveness, cancellation, and/or consolidation under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program (PSLF). Created under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, PSLF allows borrowers who work full time for nonprofits and government agencies to have their outstanding debt forgiven tax-free on Federal Direct Loans, after making 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Identify, write, and submit grant proposals and budgets, in collaboration with ACC program staff.
    • Prepare grant proposals, letters of inquiry, annual and semi-annual reports, and strategic communications for foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
    • Manage and maintain ACC’s grant calendar including tracking deadlines, correspondence, and the receipt of gifts and pledges.
    • Research and identify prospective foundation, corporate, and government donors to support ACC’s mission to end animal homelessness in New York City.
    • Support institutional funder stewardship and engagement activities, including recognition, reporting, meetings, tours, and programmatic updates.
    • Support corporate partnership and engagement efforts, including sponsorships, volunteer initiatives, matching gift programs, special events, and other fundraising activities.
    • Ensure all necessary records, files, reports, and databases pertinent to grant activities remain up to date and accurate in collaboration with ACC’s Philanthropy Operations staff.
    • Work closely with ACC's program and Finance staff to manage grant-supported programs, including progress and achievements, budget components, and compliance with all grant requirements.

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Conduct ongoing prospect research to support institutional fundraising efforts and project-based funding opportunities.
    • Support institutional donor engagement efforts, including coordinating tours, calls, meetings, and updates related to ACC programs and initiatives.
    • Fear Free certification within 30 days of hire.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Philanthropy.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with donor databases and fundraising platforms such as Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred.
    • Experience with prospect research, institutional fundraising, corporate partnerships, or donor stewardship activities preferred.
    • Demonstrated interest in animal welfare and commitment to ACC’s mission and values.

    Work Environment

The role is hybrid but based at ACC’s NYC Headquarters, our administrative office at 11 Park Place in lower Manhattan. The position also requires willingness to travel to ACC’s five Animal Care Centers across the five boroughs, as well as to fundraising and media events. Because ACC houses hundreds of animals across its facilities at any given time, visits to our Care Centers involve exposure to fur, odors, and other airborne particles.

ACC offers many low-cost services to pets and people in need. This includes compassionate end-of-life services for people who cannot afford to go to a private veterinary office but still want to provide a professional and peaceful transition for their beloved pet.
