    Description

About the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust

The Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust (LANLT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and sustaining parks and gardens in Los Angeles's most park-poor communities. We work at the intersection of environmental justice, community health, and land stewardship — partnering with residents to build green spaces that strengthen neighborhoods for generations.

    Position Summary

The Director of Finance is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the Executive Director. This person will serve as a strategic partner to the ED and board, overseeing the full financial health of the organization alongside day-to-day operations. The Director of Finance will bring financial rigor, operational excellence, and a commitment to LANLT's mission to ensure the organization is well-positioned for sustainable growth. The position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization's finances, and includes transactional work (AP/AR, payroll processing) for the immediate future, until the organization's budget grows and we're able to hire dedicated transactional support staff.

    • Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
    • Manage accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and banking relationships

    Grants & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local grant regulations (including 2 CFR 200 for federal awards)
    • Partner with program staff to monitor expenditures
    • Maintain organizational compliance with all regulatory, tax, and reporting requirements (990, state registrations, etc.)

    Operations & Team Leadership

    • Support organizational operations and administrative functions as needed, in partnership with the Executive Director
    • Help build out finance/operations infrastructure and staffing as the organization grows, including hiring and supervising future transactional support staff

    Qualifications

    Required

    • 5+ years of progressive financial management experience, ideally in a nonprofit setting

    • Experience managing government grants and compliance with federal grant regulations
    • Demonstrated ability to lead operational and HR functions
    • Strong proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks or similar) and Microsoft Office/Google Suite
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial audiences
    • Commitment to racial equity and environmental justice
