GreenRoots’ mission is to achieve environmental justice and greater quality of life through collective action, unity, education and youth leadership across neighborhoods and communities. We do so through deep community engagement and empowerment, youth leadership and implementation of innovative projects and campaigns.

    Job Overview:

The Communications Consultant will have at least five years of experience in campaign organizing, earned media relations, or public relations to elevate our storytelling and community engagement. In this role, you will lead the development of a range of communications and marketing materials including flyers, annual reports, fundraising pitches, newsletters, press releases, website content, and social media campaigns. You will foster expanded relationships with regional and local journalists, develop media contacts and conduct a strategic audit of our social media presence to strengthen engagement, creativity, and community-centered storytelling. Additionally, you will provide key media and storytelling support to organizers working with filmmakers to produce a documentary on Energy Democracy.

The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller with a deep passion for environmental and social justice and has experience crafting compelling narratives and stories that center our communities in powerful, authentic, and resilient ways. This is an in-person role with the possibility of some remote work.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Develop and design the organization's FY 2026 annual report.
    • Write media advisories, press releases, talking points, and other communication materials.
    • Develop and maintain a media content list.
    • Identify opportunities to elevate the organization’s work through earned media.
    • Conduct a comprehensive audit of our social media platforms with a focus on engagement, creativity, accessibility, and storytelling.
    • Develop recommendations for strengthening our social media presence and better reaching target audiences.
    • Develop and manage weekly and monthly content editorial calendars for multiple platforms.
    • Monitor content performance and use engagement data to inform which topics, formats, and approaches to prioritize.
    • Create and publish multimedia content, including photography, livestreams, short-form videos, social media posts, and digital campaigns.
    • Film, edit, caption, and format short-form video content for different platforms as needed.
    • Produce engaging marketing and fundraising materials including flyers, annual reports, fundraising pitches, and newsletters.
    • Support organizers in developing communications and storytelling strategies around key campaigns and initiatives.
    • Support with identifying compelling stories, community voices, and narratives that can support the documentary project on Energy Democracy.
    • Maintain and update the organizational website as needed.

    Who we are looking for:

    • 5+ years of experience in media relations, communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields.
    • Bilingual fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish required
    • Demonstrated passion for environmental and social justice
    • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to communicate concisely, clearly, and quickly with minimal oversight.
    • Strong storytelling skills and the ability to develop compelling narratives that center community voices.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Experience using creative and digital tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar platforms.
    • Experience shooting and editing short videos is a plus
